Job Overview
Camphill School Aberdeen (CSA) is an independent charity offering education, care and

therapy services for children and young people with additional support needs on a day

and residential basis.

Our Vision - To be recognised as a centre of excellence where children and adults can

live, learn and work in an integrated community based on mutual respect and unfolding

of individual potential.

Our Mission - To create a community where children and adults feel a sense of belonging, support and personal growth; a place where there is an inclusive, lifelong learning culture with an integrated approach to health, education and care. Our School adopts a holistic, person-centred approach to the development of our young people and endeavours to ensure that they achieve to their fullest potential. We offer a multi-disciplinary approach to education, care and therapy to meet the individual requirements of young people with complex special educational needs. Our curriculum is tailored to each individual child, rather than taking a conventional mainstream approach. Each pupil’s learning is based on their own needs, goals, strengths and aspirations. Whilst some of our pupils will go on to complete formal qualifications, we measure success in other ways too: some pupils may have social and emotional challenges; working with them to develop transferable life skills is essential for their transition into adulthood.

The role of Teaching Assistant will form part of the senior education team and, under the supervision of a teacher, will implement agreed programmes with individuals/groups, in or out of the classroom. This could include:

Requiring detailed and specialist knowledge in particular areas and will involve assisting the teacher in the whole planning cycle and the management and preparation of resources.

Leading and modelling positive behaviour management with proactive and solution-focused approaches.

Occasionally supervising whole classes during the short-term absence of teachers.

Sharing the School’s responsibility to support and promote the learning, personal development, safeguarding and wellbeing of all pupils.

Our Teaching Assistants are vital in ensuring each pupil reaches their full potential.

Each Teaching Assistant does this by developing positive working relationships with our pupils, understanding their likes, dislikes and interests so that all lessons are personalised.

To be a successful Teaching Assistant, you will need:

To have worked within Level 4 of the CSA Pupil Support Assistant gradings for at least one year.

To have demonstrated patience, compassion and resilience – all of the pupils you will support will be neurodiverse, which may impact their learning behaviour and communication needs.

Great communication skills – both verbal and written communication is important in this role as you will be speaking to a lot of different people at different times. You will also need to be able to update the pupils’ plans and help create learning material.

To be adaptable to different situations, demonstrating a calm approach, even when under pressure.
