Overview

The Little John is a well-loved pub with rooms in the heart of Hathersage and a proud part of the Northern Collective. We're passionate about great pub food, warm hospitality, and creating memorable experiences for our guests — while developing talented people along the way.

We are now looking for an experienced, passionate, and driven Head Chef to lead our kitchen team and help shape the food offering at one of the Peak District's most popular pubs with rooms.

This is an exciting opportunity for a chef who takes pride in producing high-quality food, leading and developing a team, and driving standards in a busy hospitality environment.

The Role

As Head Chef, you will be responsible for the overall management and performance of the kitchen, ensuring exceptional food quality, consistency, and service at all times.

Key responsibilities include:

Leading, motivating, and developing the kitchen team
Managing all day-to-day kitchen operations
Maintaining high standards of food quality, presentation, and consistency
Creating and developing seasonal menus in line with the Northern Collective ethos
Managing food costs, GP targets, and stock control
Ordering and managing supplier relationships
Ensuring compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health & safety regulations
Managing kitchen rotas and labour costs effectively
Training and mentoring junior chefs and kitchen team members
Working closely with the General Manager to drive the overall success of the business
Maintaining a clean, organised, and efficient kitchen environment
Leading by example during busy service periods

About You

An experienced Head Chef or strong Sous Chef ready for the next step
Passionate about fresh, quality ingredients and great pub food
Strong leadership and people management skills
Organised, proactive, and commercially aware
Calm under pressure and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Strong understanding of food safety and kitchen compliance
A team player who enjoys developing others
Flexible and available to work evenings, weekends, and peak trading periods
A genuine passion for hospitality and creating great guest experiences
