JOB DESCRIPTION - HLTA Level 4 Full Time, Term Time Only (8.30 - 18.00)

Supporting the Teaching and Learning of pupils through:

Demonstrating an informed and efficient approach to teaching and learning by adopting relevant strategies to support the work of the teacher and increase achievement of all pupils including, where appropriate, those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Promoting, supporting, and facilitating inclusion by encouraging participation of all pupils in learning and extracurricular activities.

Using effective behaviour management strategies consistently in line with the school’s policy and procedures.

Supporting class teachers with managing behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment.

Organising and managing teaching spaces and resources to help maintain a stimulating and safe learning environment.

Observing pupil performance and relaying observations on to the class teacher.

Delivering targeted interventions with pupils on a one-to –one or small group basis in liaison with the class teacher and SENCO.

Supervising a class if the teacher is temporarily unavailable.

Using ICT skills to advance pupils’ learning.

Undertaking any other relevant duties given by the class teacher.

Covering and leading class teaching (under supervision) as and when appropriate.

Supporting the Planning of effective learning through:

Contributing to effective assessment and planning by supporting the monitoring, recording and reporting of pupil performance and progress as appropriate to the level of the role.

Read and understand lesson plans shared prior to lessons, if available.

Prepare the classroom for lessons.

Use their area(s) of expertise to contribute to the planning and preparation of appropriate learning activities, and to plan their role in learning activities.

Use allocated time to devise clearly structured activities that interest and motivate learners and advance their learning.

Plan how they will support the inclusion of pupils in the learning activities.

Ensuring effective Communication and Collaboration through:

Communicating effectively with other staff members and pupils, and with parents and carers under the direction of the class teacher.

Supporting the class teacher in communicating pupil progress and attainment with parents and carers during Parent meetings.

Communicating their knowledge and understanding of pupils to other school staff and education, health, and social care professionals, so that informed decision making can take place on intervention and provision.

With the class teacher, keeping other professionals accurately informed of performance and progress or concerns they may have about the pupils they work with.

Understanding their role in order to be able to work collaboratively with classroom teachers and other colleagues, including specialist advisory teachers.

Collaborating and working with colleagues and other relevant professionals within and beyond the school.

Developing effective professional relationships with colleagues.

Completing other duties including:

Attending departmental meetings, parents’ consultations, and whole school events.

Being responsible for improving own teaching through participating fully in training and development opportunities identified by the school or as an outcome of appraisal.

Having professional regard for the ethos, policies, and practices of the school, and maintaining high standards in own attendance and punctuality.

Being responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the school, raising any concerns following school protocol/procedures.

Attending, preparing and participating in assemblies.

Undertaking supervision of the pupils, outside the classroom as timetabled during break times, within the dining room and on school visits.

Supporting pupils in developing hygiene and personal care skills.

Monitoring the use of all departmental equipment to ensure it is correctly used and to ensure its security.

Ensuring all equipment is returned promptly to secure storage.

Ensuring the health and safety of staff and pupils, including reporting any faulty, unsafe or dangerous equipment or objects around the school immediately.

Maintaining the school's good reputation on and off the premises.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

Qualifications

Minimum Level 4 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, Level 4 Diploma in Childcare and Education, or other relevant qualification in childcare. GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C) including English and Maths. Would consider Level 3 qualification for the right candidate if they were willing to work towards their Level 4 Qualification with the schools support.

Experience of working with children.

Subject and curriculum knowledge relevant to the role, and ability to apply this effectively in supporting teachers and pupils.

Experience of planning and leading teaching and learning activities (under supervision).

Good literacy and numeracy skills.

Good organisational skills.

Ability to build effective working relationships with pupils and adults.

Knowledge of how to help adapt and deliver support to meet individual needs.

Excellent verbal communication skills.

The ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Knowledge of guidance and requirements around safeguarding children.

Good ICT skills, particularly using ICT to support learning.

Understanding of roles and responsibilities within the classroom and whole school context Understanding of effective teaching methods.

Knowledge of how to successfully lead learning activities for a group or class of children. Knowledge of how to support learners in accessing the curriculum in accordance with the SEND code of practice.

Knowledge of how to effectively support young children in managing their personal care needs.
