Full job description

Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mentor/Youth Support Worker to provide guidance, encouragement, and support to young people within our community. The successful candidate will play a vital role in fostering positive development, building confidence, and promoting social inclusion. This paid position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young individuals while developing valuable skills in youth work and mentoring.

Duties

Establish trusting relationships with young people through active listening and empathetic engagement
Develop personalised support plans tailored to individual needs and goals
Facilitate group activities, workshops, and one-to-one mentoring sessions that promote personal growth and skill development
Collaborate with families, schools, and community organisations to ensure holistic support for young people
Monitor progress and maintain accurate records of interactions and achievements
Provide guidance on education, employment, and social skills to empower young people towards independence
Promote positive behaviour and conflict resolution strategies in various settings
Assist in organising community events or programmes aimed at youth engagement and development

Skills

Proven experience in coaching or mentoring roles, ideally working with children or young people
Strong understanding of youth work principles and practices
Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups, demonstrating patience and empathy
Knowledge of special education needs (SEN) is advantageous but not essential
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to plan engaging activities and manage multiple priorities
Ability to motivate and inspire confidence in young individuals
Commitment to safeguarding policies and promoting a safe environment for all participants
