Stores & Logistics Operative – Joinery Manufacturing

Role Overview

The Stores & Logistics Operative is responsible for managing materials, tools, stock, and logistics across the workshop and site operations. The role ensures that materials are prepared and issued correctly, goods are received and dispatched efficiently, supplier deliveries are progressed, and the stores area remains organised, safe, and fully compliant. This position supports production, site teams, and purchasing, contributing directly to smooth workflow and high-quality project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Preparing Materials for Production & Dispatch

Sort stock and non‑stock materials into usable formats for issue to the joinery shop.
Coordinate directly with site supervisors regarding requirements for small parts, fixings, and tools.
Sort ironmongery into specific door sets for production or site installation.
Prepare materials for dispatch, ensuring accuracy and readiness for collection or delivery.

Stock Management & Store Control

Maintain the stores area, keeping it tidy, organised, and secure—especially for valuable small items.
Ensure preservation and correct storage of all materials.
Assist with stock takes and reconcile physical stock against ERP system.
Control packaging material stock levels and raise purchase orders to maintain agreed minimums.
Maintain accurate stock records and raise requisitions for re‑ordering to agreed min/max levels.
Secure and manage valuable small items and ensure safe accessibility for all staff.

Goods In

Check in goods using forklift or manual unloading.
Verify goods-in documentation, including items received by other employees.
Sort non‑stock materials returned from site or subcontractors, re‑use where possible, return for credit, or dispose appropriately.
Quarantine unsuitable materials and chase resolution with relevant departments.
GRN goods on ERP system or liaise with purchasing where pricing or PO details are missing.
Alert purchasing immediately regarding errors, omissions, or damage.

Suppliers & Delivery Progression

Raise purchase orders when required.
Progress deliveries for non‑stock materials
Chase suppliers 2–3 days ahead of scheduled deliveries to ensure timely arrival or early warning of delays.
Review project delivery schedules for the upcoming 5 days and progress accordingly.
Communicate daily with complex suppliers to ensure alignment with short‑ and medium‑term delivery requirements.
Update complex stock item spreadsheets and maintain accurate supplier progress records.

Goods Out

Prepare delivery tickets and picking lists (shared responsibility with works quality control).
Assist with loading vehicles when required.
Arrange delivery slots on customer sites and manage congestion charge payments.
File signed delivery tickets from site.
Arrange courier deliveries and collections.
Ensure documentation for site supervisors (green wallet) is loaded onto vehicles.
Communicate effectively with site supervisors regarding dispatch and delivery requirements.

Issuing Materials to Jobs

Issue stock materials to jobs on ERP system

Health & Safety

Issue PPE to office staff, visitors, workshop personnel, and site teams.
Maintain PPE stock levels and ensure availability.
Follow all company QHSE procedures and support safe working practices.

Power Tools & Site Equipment

Sort and prepare power tools and plant for site use.
Carry out visual checks to ensure guards and parts are fitted correctly.
Liaise directly with site managers and supervisors regarding tool requirements.
Organise PAT testing for site tools and maintain calibration registers.
Check in returned power tools from site and update asset lists accordingly.

General Responsibilities

Maintain all records required by the company’s IMS system.
Provide cover for critical duties of the purchasing manager and storeman when required.
Undertake any additional tasks as directed by your manager.
Minimise waste and maximise productivity.

Skills & Experience Required

Joinery experience preferable but not essential.
Strong Microsoft Excel skills essential.
Familiarity with EMS or proprietary data entry systems advantageous.
Ability to prioritise workload effectively.
High accuracy and attention to detail in both manual and electronic data handling.
Good communication skills with colleagues across departments.
Confident telephone manner preferable.
Forklift experience preferred, otherwise training will be given.

Salary & Benefits

Salary to be discussed based on experience.
Holiday entitlement: 22 days per annum.
