Overview

We are currently recruiting for a Business Support Officer to join a busy Environmental & Regulation service based in Lyndhurst.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced administrator who enjoys working with people, providing high-quality customer service and managing a varied workload within a busy environment.

You will play an important role within the team, acting as a first point of contact for members of the public, businesses and internal colleagues, while providing essential administrative and operational support across the service.

About the Role

As Business Support Officer, your responsibilities will include:

Acting as the first point of contact for customers via telephone, email, face-to-face and online enquiries.
Responding promptly and professionally to a high volume of enquiries and providing accurate information.
Assessing enquiries and determining the appropriate action, including referring matters to specialist officers or other departments where required.
Logging and managing cases accurately, ensuring urgent matters are identified and progressed within required timescales.
Providing administrative support to Environmental Health and Regulation Officers.
Maintaining accurate records and updating relevant computer systems and databases.
Preparing documentation, correspondence, reports and statistical information.
Supporting the administration of licensing, environmental health and regulatory processes.
Handling payments, calculating application fees and supporting financial administration.
Coordinating appointments, meetings, tests and other service activities.
Managing competing priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and customer service.
Working collaboratively with colleagues across the service and wider organisation.
Maintaining confidentiality and ensuring personal and commercially sensitive information is handled appropriately.

The role offers a varied workload, with the opportunity to develop a strong working knowledge of Environmental & Regulation services and take ownership of specific areas of work.

About You

We are looking for someone who has solid office administration experience and is confident dealing with customers and colleagues across a range of communication channels.

You will need:

Previous experience working in office administration within a busy environment.
A minimum of three GCSEs or equivalent, including English and Mathematics.
Strong IT skills and experience using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong customer service skills and confidence dealing with members of the public.
Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
The ability to work independently using your own initiative, while also contributing effectively as part of a team.
The ability to remain calm, professional and approachable when dealing with challenging or sensitive situations.
The ability to quickly understand new systems, procedures and processes.

Desirable Experience

The following would be advantageous but are not essential:

Previous experience working within a Local Authority or public sector environment.
Knowledge of Environmental Health or Licensing.
Experience using Microsoft Teams, SharePoint or specialist administrative systems.
Experience working with telephone/online customer contact systems.

Hybrid/remote working may be available for an agreed proportion of contracted hours
23 days annual leave, increasing by 5 days after 5 years' continuous local authority service
