Full job description

Mechanic

City Cabs (Edinburgh) Ltd is looking for a qualified and experienced mechanic to join our busy taxi garage.

You will work on our licensed taxi fleet, carrying out routine servicing, maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs. Our priority is to identify faults efficiently, complete work to a high standard, and return vehicles to service safely and promptly.

This is a practical, hands-on role within a busy workshop. Unlike many retail garage positions, there are no sales or upselling targets.

Main Responsibilities

Carry out routine vehicle servicing and maintenance
Fit and repair tyres
Inspect, service, and replace braking systems
Repair and replace exhaust components
Replace batteries and other routine service items
Carry out suspension and steering repairs
Perform specific diagnostic work and fault finding
Complete vehicle safety inspections
Identify any additional repair requirements
Ensure all work is completed safely and to a high standard
Maintain accurate records of work completed
Keep the workshop clean, safe, and organised
Work closely with the garage team to minimise vehicle downtime

About You

The successful applicant will have:

Must be fully qualified
Good diagnostic and fault-finding skills
The ability to work independently and manage a varied workload
A strong understanding of workshop health and safety
A reliable, practical, and proactive approach to work
Good communication and teamwork skills
A full UK driving licence
