About Us

Our charity, Elgin Youth Development Group was established in 1998, with the vision of providing a safe social space for young people in the Elgin area. In addition, we run our Social Enterprises as a method to financially support our charitable mission. The Inkwell offers venue and catering hire, and Café @ The Warehouse is our on-site café, open weekdays. Both allow us to offer work experience opportunities for young people.

The Individual

We are looking for an enthusiastic cook to join our friendly cafe team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food and experience of working in hospitality. Cafe @ The Warehouse is a unique working environment within the charitable sector. Our cafe doubles as a training facility, enabling us to provide local young people with life-changing work experience. Therefore, the individual should have an interest in the opportunity to work with and support young people. You will be excited by the prospect of sharing your cooking ability and experience with the trainees you will be working with.

You will work closely with a small, committed team and we are seeking someone who is a team player who enjoys supporting their colleagues and trainees and lending a helping hand when necessary.

Responsibilities

Making quality café food following our menu, guides and recipes.
Assisting in the production of meeting & event catering requests.
Adjusting menu choices in line with customer feedback and sales data. Plan the weekly specials.
Maintaining a clean and safe working environment to food industry levels including the cleaning of fryers and grease trap.
Following Health & Safety in accordance with the organisation’s policies. Including safe working practices with chemicals and equipment provided.
The role includes supervising/training as part of our ongoing employability programme. This will require the ability to provide clear instructions and assist in guiding people through basic tasks.
Ensuring food is stored appropriately in store cupboards, freezers and fridges.
Rotating stock to ensure items are used before or at least by their sell by date.
Take responsibility for stock control and purchasing ingredients and catering supplies.
Ensure the laundry is undertaken.

Pay: £13.45 per hour
