Experienced Part-Time Bookkeeper

Candidate Recruitment Pack | 14 hours per week

Salary

£28,500-£31,500 full-time equivalent, depending on experience and qualifications. For 14 hours per week, this equates to an actual salary of £10,640-£11,760 per annum

Contract: Permanent, part-time

Hours: 14 hours per week, with the working pattern/location agreed with the successful candidate

Location: Flexible working, with attendance at a Hughes Architects office as reasonably required and agreed.

Reporting to: Practice Manager

The opportunity

Hughes Architects is looking for an experienced and highly organised part-time Bookkeeper to take day-to-day ownership of our financial records and bookkeeping systems.

We are an established, people-focused architectural practice working across Wales and the West Midlands, with offices in Newtown, Welshpool and Shrewsbury. As our practice continues to develop, we are strengthening our financial systems and looking for someone who can bring accuracy, consistency and clarity to this important area of the business.

What you will be doing

· Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in Xero.

· Process and code purchase invoices, expenses and receipts, using Hubdoc where appropriate.

· Complete regular bank, credit-card and control-account reconciliations.

· Maintain accurate supplier and customer records.

· Monitor aged debtors and support consistent, professional credit control.

· Check supplier statements and prepare accurate supplier payment information for authorisation.

· Record and reconcile transfers between bank accounts.

· Investigate discrepancies and missing information, following issues through to resolution.

· Prepare accurate bookkeeping information to support VAT returns and liaise with the external accountant as required.

· Liaise with the payroll provider and check payroll-related information supplied by the practice.

· Support month-end routines and provide timely information to the Practice Manager, directors and external accountant.

· Produce weekly KPI financial reports, including aged debtors, aged creditors and reconciliation status.

· Maintain running-cost information and produce regular actual-versus-budget and expenditure reports for the Practice Manager.

· Maintain a clear digital filing system and a reliable audit trail.

· Help document and improve bookkeeping procedures and financial controls.

What we are looking for

The right person will do more than process transactions. They will take pride in keeping the accounts accurate, notice when something does not look right and help us establish dependable financial routines. They will be comfortable working independently while remaining closely connected to the wider team.

· Substantial practical bookkeeping experience, including reconciliations, ledgers, VAT support and credit control.

· Strong, demonstrable working knowledge of both Xero and Hubdoc

· Some experience of working with Fresh Projects or willingness to learn

· Sound bookkeeping judgement, excellent accuracy and the confidence to investigate discrepancies.

· Clear communication, discretion and the ability to organise work independently around agreed deadlines.

· Confidence using Microsoft Excel, Outlook and digital filing systems.
