Full job description

About the role

We're a fast-growing UK e-commerce business generating £15M+ in revenue across the UK and Europe. With multiple brands, high order volumes and ambitious retail expansion plans, we're looking for a sharp, commercially minded and trustworthy Finance & Accounts Manager to take ownership of our financial operations.

This is a senior, hands-on role sitting at the heart of the business. You will be responsible for everything from day-to-day financial control and management reporting through to cash flow, budgeting, tax compliance and supporting director and shareholder tax planning.

This is not a purely advisory finance role. We are looking for someone comfortable working in the detail, maintaining accurate accounts and reconciliations, while also being able to step back, understand the commercial picture and identify opportunities to improve profitability, cash flow and financial efficiency.

You will work closely with the directors, operations and procurement teams, alongside our external accountants.

Financial Management & Budget Control

Take ownership of the company's day-to-day financial operations, planning and reporting
Develop, manage and monitor budgets across the business
Regularly review financial performance against budget, providing clear variance analysis and recommendations
Maintain and monitor cash flow to ensure the business meets its operational and tax obligations
Prepare monthly management accounts, forecasts and financial reports for directors and shareholders
Monitor margins, costs and profitability across the business
Identify cost-saving opportunities and advise on reinvestment and financial priorities
Provide accurate financial information to support commercial decision-making

Payments, Accounts & Record Keeping

Approve and process supplier invoices, purchase orders and outgoing payments accurately and on time
Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, ensuring reconciliations remain current
Maintain clean and accurate ledgers with transactions correctly coded and reconciled
Reconcile high-volume e-commerce transactions, payment gateways, platform fees and deductions
Work across platforms including Shopify, Amazon and other online marketplaces
Support stock, purchasing and inventory reconciliation
Produce monthly management accounts and support year-end financial statements

Taxation & Compliance

Ensure VAT, PAYE and corporation tax requirements are accurately managed and submitted on time in coordination with external accountants
Maintain compliance with HMRC requirements and relevant e-commerce tax obligations
Maintain accurate, audit-ready financial records
Liaise with accountants and auditors during year-end and compliance reviews
Monitor relevant tax and regulatory changes and highlight potential implications for the business

Shareholder & Director Tax Planning

Support tax-efficient dividend planning for shareholders, taking account of income, tax bands and timing
Support directors with salary and dividend structuring, benefits-in-kind and self-assessment requirements
Identify relevant allowances, reliefs and corporation tax opportunities
Support the use of capital allowances and appropriate employment benefit schemes
Work alongside external accountants to ensure director and shareholder tax positions are structured appropriately each financial year

Growth & Strategic Support

Work closely with operations, procurement and management to align financial priorities with business objectives
Provide financial analysis and scenario modelling to support purchasing and inventory decisions
Support margin analysis, stock planning and working-capital management
Provide financial insight to support growth initiatives and retail expansion
Help develop stronger financial systems, processes and reporting as the business continues to scale

What We're Looking For

3+ years' experience in a finance role with hands-on responsibility for management accounts, financial reporting and planning
Strong knowledge of UK accounting practices and HMRC requirements
Practical experience of VAT, PAYE and corporation tax processes
Understanding of director/shareholder remuneration, dividends and benefits-in-kind
Strong working knowledge of Xero
Experience dealing with reconciliations, cash flow, budgeting and management accounts
Strong numerical accuracy, analytical ability and attention to detail
Commercial mindset with the confidence to question costs, margins and financial performance
High integrity and discretion when handling confidential financial information
Comfortable working in a fast-moving, hands-on SME environment
Previous e-commerce, retail or other high-volume transactional experience is strongly preferred
Experience working with Shopify, Amazon or similar e-commerce platforms is highly advantageous
Based in, or able to commute reliably to, Rainham
Available to start immediately or at short notice
