Care Manager – Job Specification

Position Details

Job Title: Care Manager Location: SureCare Guildford & Woking Reports To: Registered Care Manager Responsible For: Office Staff, Care Coordinators, Team Leaders, Care Workers and other field-based staff within the designated geographical area.

Purpose of the Role

The Care Manager is responsible for supporting the Registered Care Manager in the effective leadership, management, development and growth of the domiciliary care service. The role ensures the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care to vulnerable adults living in their own homes while maintaining full compliance with regulatory requirements, company policies and financial objectives.

The Care Manager will lead and motivate teams, oversee care delivery, ensure excellent customer service, maintain strong relationships with stakeholders and contribute to the strategic growth and success of SureCare Guildford & Woking.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Management

Assist the Registered Care Manager in the day-to-day management of the domiciliary care service.

Ensure the provision of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led services in accordance with CQC Fundamental Standards.

Manage and support office and field-based teams to deliver outstanding care.

Ensure efficient scheduling and deployment of care staff to maximise care delivery and continuity of care.

Monitor service delivery and ensure care workers provide support in line with agreed care plans.

Ensure accurate maintenance of care records, documentation and service user files.

Conduct service user reviews and quality assurance checks in accordance with company and local authority requirements.

Staff Leadership and Development

Lead, supervise and motivate care and office staff.

Ensure effective induction, supervision, appraisal and performance management processes are implemented.

Identify training and development needs and support staff to achieve required competencies.

Ensure all staff complete mandatory and specialist training requirements.

Promote a positive culture of teamwork, accountability, continuous improvement and excellence.

Recruitment and Retention

Support recruitment campaigns and workforce planning activities.

Ensure company recruitment procedures are followed at all times.

Participate in interviews and selection processes.

Ensure sufficient staffing levels are maintained to meet service demand.

Support staff retention initiatives and employee engagement activities.

Quality and Compliance

Ensure compliance with:

Care Quality Commission (CQC) Regulations

Health and Social Care Act Regulations

Data Protection Act 2018

Health and Safety legislation

Safeguarding legislation and guidance

Company policies and procedures

Ensure all service users receive comprehensive assessments, risk assessments and care planning.

Monitor quality standards and implement improvements where required.

Manage complaints, compliments and feedback effectively.

Ensure confidentiality and information governance requirements are adhered to at all times.

Business Development and Financial Performance

Contribute to the growth and development of the service.

Support local marketing initiatives and community engagement activities.

Develop positive relationships with local authorities, healthcare professionals and commissioners.

Assist in achieving occupancy, revenue and profitability targets.

Monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and provide accurate reports to senior management.

Support budget management and cost control activities.

Stakeholder Management

Build and maintain strong relationships with:

Service users and families

Local authorities

NHS professionals

Community organisations

Commissioners and purchasers of care

Attend meetings with stakeholders as required.

Represent SureCare Guildford & Woking professionally at all times.

Essential Qualifications

Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (or equivalent).

Willingness to work towards Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care (if not already held).

Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle.

Essential Experience

Minimum 2 years' experience in a supervisory or management role within domiciliary care, supported living or adult social care.

Experience managing care staff and coordinating care services.

Experience conducting assessments, care planning and risk assessments.

Experience working with local authorities, healthcare professionals and external stakeholders.

Experience managing compliance and quality standards within a regulated care environment.

Essential Knowledge

Understanding of CQC regulations and Fundamental Standards.

Knowledge of safeguarding adults procedures.

Understanding of person-centred care principles.

Knowledge of health and safety legislation.

Understanding of employment and equality legislation.

Knowledge of care planning systems and electronic care management software.
