Full job description

Role: Prescription Administrator & Trainee Pharmacy Assistant

NOTE: This role is for local UK applicants only. The role will not provide any Work Permit, and will need someone with UK settled status.

The Role

We are looking for a confident and adaptable colleague to provide prescription administration and general support across a GP surgery and community pharmacy.

Your shifts will be divided between the GP surgery and pharmacy according to your shift pattern and business needs.

The role includes:

Processing prescription requests and related administrative work.
Supporting pharmacy-service and surgery-referral enquiries.
Updating patient information accurately using GP and pharmacy systems.
Providing general administrative and patient-services support.
Carrying out pharmacy duties while training as a Pharmacy Assistant.

Essential Requirements

Previous experience in customer service, office work or administration is required.
Experience working in healthcare, including community pharmacy, is desirable.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Enjoys varied work involving administration and patient-facing customer service.
Confident using computers and able to learn user-friendly software quickly.
Strong attention to detail when handling prescriptions and patient information.
Able to manage difficult conversations and patients with challenging attitudes calmly and professionally.
Willing to work late shifts and occasional weekend cover.
Reliable, adaptable and comfortable working across two different teams.

Physical and Working Requirements

Pharmacy shifts may involve:

Prolonged standing and walking.
Light to medium lifting.
Reaching shelves above and below normal working height.
Regular movement around the dispensary and retail area.

GP surgery shifts may involve:

Prolonged use of display-screen equipment.
Extended computer-based administrative work.
Remaining seated for significant periods.
Processing a continuous flow of prescription and patient enquiries.

Working Pattern

Week 1: Monday to Friday, 9:00 am–6:00 pm, with a one-hour unpaid break — 40 paid hours.
Week 2: Monday to Friday, 3:00 pm–9:00 pm — 30 paid hours.
Average: 35 paid hours per week.
Pay: £13.00 per hour.
Annual pay equivalent: £23,660.
Occasional pharmacy weekend cover: Saturday or Sunday, according to your shift pattern and business needs.

Training and Development

Full training will be provided in:

Prescription-administration procedures.
GP and pharmacy systems.
Patient confidentiality and information handling.
Pharmacy customer service and operational processes.
The Trainee Pharmacy Assistant role.
Managing difficult patient interactions professionally.
