Full job description

Overview

We are seeking an experienced, compassionate and dedicated Children's Residential Deputy Manager to join our growing team. In this role, you will support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day leadership and management of the home, ensuring the highest standards of care, safeguarding and regulatory compliance are maintained. You will lead by example, providing effective supervision and guidance to the staff team whilst promoting positive outcomes for children and young people. You will work closely with children, families, social workers and other professionals to ensure children's voices are heard, care plans are implemented effectively, and each child receives high-quality, individualised care. Working within a supportive environment, you will play a key role in driving continuous improvement and helping young people achieve their full potential.

Responsibilities

Actively safeguard and promote the welfare of the children and young people in our care.
Support the Registered Manager with the day-to-day management and leadership of the home.
Lead, motivate and develop the staff team to deliver outstanding care and support.
Ensure the home operates in accordance with the relevant legislation, regulations, Children's Homes Quality Standards and company policies.
Assist with staff supervision, induction, training, performance management and ongoing development.
Support with rota planning and ensuring appropriate staffing levels are maintained.
Oversee the implementation and review of care plans, behaviour support plans and risk assessments.
Promote a therapeutic, nurturing and child-centred environment that enables children to thrive.
Develop positive relationships with children, encouraging their participation in decisions that affect their lives.
Build effective working relationships with families, social workers, education providers and other professionals to ensure a collaborative multi-agency approach.
Monitor the quality of care, complete audits and contribute to continuous service improvement.
Ensure accurate, timely and high-quality recording, reporting and case management.
Support children to access education, healthcare, appointments and recreational activities where required.
Manage incidents effectively, providing leadership and guidance to staff whilst ensuring appropriate reporting and follow-up.
Deputise for the Registered Manager in their absence, taking responsibility for the safe and effective operation of the home.

Experience

Previous experience in a senior role within a children's residential setting is essential.
Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) is essential.
Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards if not already achieved) is desirable.
Sound knowledge of the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the Quality Standards.
Experience of leading, supervising and developing staff teams.
Strong understanding of safeguarding, risk management and behaviour support.
Excellent communication, leadership and organisational skills.
Ability to build positive relationships with children, families and partner agencies.
A valid UK driving licence is desirable but not essential.
IT proficiency is essential for maintaining records, completing audits and using relevant software systems.
