Job Summary

We are a small independent restaurant and takeaway based on Waterloo Road, ST6. We make all of our food from fresh, this includes: our meat, our salad and even our sauces!

We are seeking a talented and preferably experienced Chef to join our unique culinary team here at The Dirty Diner. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a passion for food, and extensive experience in food preparation and kitchen management. This role involves overseeing daily kitchen operations, ensuring high standards of food safety and quality, and inspiring a team of culinary professionals to deliver exceptional dining experiences. The Chef will play a vital role in maintaining the organisation’s reputation for excellence in hospitality and cuisine.

Cooking

Coating chicken in our homemade flour and frying in the fryer
Cooking food on the flat top griddle such as smash burgers, tacos etc
Cooking fries and other items in the fryer
Maintaining and cleaning the cooking area while you’re cooking

Duties

Lead and supervise the kitchen team to ensure efficient operation and high-quality food production.
Prepare, cook, and present a variety of dishes in accordance with organisational standards and customer expectations.
Manage food safety protocols, including hygiene standards, storage procedures, and allergen control.
Oversee food inventory, ordering supplies as needed to maintain stock levels without waste.
Develop new menu items in collaboration with management, incorporating current culinary trends.
Monitor kitchen operations during service hours, ensuring timely delivery of meals and exceptional customer service.
Train and mentor junior staff members to enhance their culinary skills and professional development.
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen environment at all times.
Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure seamless service delivery and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

Proven experience in a professional kitchen environment, ideally within a restaurant or hospitality setting is desired however not essential.
Supervising experience with a track record of managing teams effectively.
Strong background in food production, preparation, and cooking techniques.
Knowledge of food safety standards and regulations recognised within the hospitality industry.
Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff members.
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to multitask under pressure during busy service periods.
Experience in menu development, food presentation, and maintaining high standards of quality.
Previous experience in restaurant settings or catering environments is highly desirable.
