Full job description

Job Purpose

To support the Registered Home Manager in the day-to-day management and operation of the residential dementia care home, ensuring the delivery of outstanding, person-centred care that promotes dignity, independence, wellbeing, and quality of life for all residents. The Deputy Manager will provide strong leadership to the care team, maintain compliance with regulatory standards, and deputise for the Registered Manager in their absence.

Leadership and Management

· Support the Registered Manager in the overall running of the care home.

· Lead, motivate, and mentor care and support staff to achieve high standards of care.

· Act as a role model, promoting the home's values and culture.

· Supervise, support, and conduct performance reviews for staff.

· Assist with recruitment, induction, training, and retention of employees.

· Manage staffing levels effectively and support rota planning.

Resident Care

· Ensure residents receive high-quality, person-centred dementia care tailored to their individual needs.

· Promote residents' independence, choice, dignity, and rights at all times.

· Monitor care plans and risk assessments, ensuring they are accurately maintained and regularly reviewed.

· Support the management of complex care needs and challenging behaviours associated with dementia.

· Build positive relationships with residents and their families.

Regulatory Compliance

· Ensure compliance with CQC regulations, Health and Social Care Act requirements, and relevant legislation.

· Support audits, inspections, and quality assurance processes.

· Maintain accurate records and documentation.

· Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed and concerns are reported appropriately.

· Promote effective infection prevention and control practices.

Clinical and Operational Oversight

· Oversee medication management and ensure safe administration practices.

· Monitor incidents, accidents, complaints, and safeguarding referrals.

· Participate in investigations and implement improvements where required.

· Assist in managing budgets, stock levels, and resources.

· Ensure health and safety requirements are met throughout the home.

Staff Development

· Identify training needs and support staff professional development.

· Deliver coaching and supervision to team members.

· Promote a positive learning environment and encourage best practice in dementia care.

Family and Community Engagement

· Develop and maintain strong relationships with relatives, health professionals, local authorities, and external agencies.

· Participate in care reviews and multidisciplinary meetings.

· Promote the home's reputation within the local community.

Essential Qualifications

· Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adult Care) as a minimum.

· Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care, or willingness to work towards it.

· Medication administration training.

· Safeguarding and Dementia Care training.

Essential Experience

· Significant experience in a residential dementia care setting.

· Previous experience in a senior care, team leader, deputy manager, or management role.

· Experience supporting residents living with dementia and complex needs.

· Experience of staff supervision, mentoring, and performance management.

· Knowledge of CQC standards and regulatory requirements.

Essential Skills and Knowledge

· Excellent leadership and communication skills.

· Strong understanding of person-centred dementia care.

· Ability to manage challenging situations professionally and calmly.

· Effective organisational and time-management skills.

· Competent IT skills and experience using electronic care planning systems.

Working Conditions

· Full-time position with flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and on-call duties as required.

· May be required to cover shifts in the absence of senior staff.

· Participation in emergency response and out-of-hours support arrangements.
