Looking for a practical career where you can work on the infrastructure that keeps the country moving?

Road to Logistics is recruiting people across Leicester and Leicestershire who want to train and progress into employment within civils, groundworks, highways and utilities.

Through our fully funded Civils Groundworker Skills Bootcamp, eligible applicants will receive industry-focused training, qualifications and dedicated employment support to help them become ready to work.

You don't need previous construction or groundworks experience to apply.

We're looking for people who are reliable, motivated, enjoy practical work and are serious about building a career in the industry.

What Does a Civils Groundworker Do?

Groundworkers play an essential role on construction and civil engineering projects, preparing sites and completing the groundwork required before and during construction.

Depending on the employer and project, your work could include:

Preparing construction sites
Excavation and groundwork activities
Drainage and ducting
Kerbing and paving
Working around underground services
Preparing surfaces and foundations
Working safely around plant and equipment
Highway and streetworks activities
Following site plans, instructions and safe systems of work
Working as part of a site team

It's a practical, hands-on career with opportunities to progress as you gain experience and additional qualifications.

Fully Funded Industry Training

If you're eligible for the Skills Bootcamp, there is no cost to you for the funded training.

Your programme will include training designed to prepare you for the realities of working within civils and groundworks, including:

Introduction to civils and groundworks
Health and safety
Manual handling
Abrasive wheels
Asbestos awareness
Streetworks (NRSWA) training and qualifications
Employability skills
CV development
Interview preparation
Job application support

You'll learn about working safely on site, employer expectations and the professional behaviours needed to build a successful career within the industry.

Training That Leads Towards Employment

This isn't simply a free training course.

The purpose of the programme is to help you gain the skills and qualifications employers are looking for and support you to progress into employment.

Road to Logistics will work with you throughout the programme to help you prepare for employment, identify suitable opportunities and get ready for employer interviews.

Following successful completion of the programme, you'll receive a guaranteed interview for a suitable live vacancy.

Potential roles could include:

Groundworker
Civils Operative
Streetworks Operative
Highways Operative
Utilities Operative
Construction Operative

Who Can Apply?

This programme is funded through Skills Bootcamps, so eligibility criteria apply.

You must:

Be aged 19 or over
Live in an eligible Leicester or Leicestershire area
Have the legal right to live and work in the UK
Meet the relevant Skills Bootcamp funding requirements
Be able to attend and participate in the required training
Be interested in progressing into the civils, groundworks, highways or utilities sector
Be willing to engage with employment support and attend an interview for a suitable live vacancy

You may be unemployed, employed or self-employed, although different funding requirements may apply depending on your circumstances.

Your full eligibility will be checked before your place on the programme is confirmed.

No Experience? No Problem.

Previous civils or groundworks experience isn't required.

We're more interested in your attitude, reliability and willingness to learn.

This could be particularly suitable if you're looking to change career, return to employment or move into a practical role within the construction and infrastructure sector.

You should be comfortable with the fact that groundworks can involve physical work, working outdoors and working in different weather conditions.
