About us

For almost 200 years, UCL Laws has been one of the leading centres of legal education in the world. At the heart of legal London, we attract the leading figures in the field to contribute to our vibrant programme of events, informing public debate and understanding of contemporary social, legal, environmental and economic issues.

The UCL Laws student body numbers around 1250 students, divided between 850 undergraduate, 350 taught graduate, and 50 graduate research students. The faculty has an academic staff of around 70 professors, lecturers and readers, as well as many visiting professors and distinguished judicial visitors. Throughout our long history, we have been committed to the values of the founders of UCL: justice, liberty and equal rights for all.

The Faculty of Laws has a large and experienced professional services team, led by the Director of Operations. It is structured to support defined areas of academic activity and the governance, management, operations and leadership of the Faculty. The Faculty Operations Team is responsible for the smooth running of the Faculty’s day to day operations including HR, finance and purchasing, estates management, and administrative support.

About the role

This role provides first line HR administrative support to the Faculty. The post holder will help to deliver a customer focused, effective, efficient, and proactive HR service, working collaboratively with wider Faculty function and central teams. A key part of the role is to respond to HR queries, helping colleagues to navigate HR processes, and ensuring accurate, timely support across recruitment and the wider employee lifecycle.

The post holder will also support the finance function of the Faculty and will be responsible for processing and monitoring interdepartmental transfers, liaising with the Finance Officer and school finance to ensure accurate project codes are set up and accounts are reconciled. The role also manages expense and travel claims, raises purchase orders and ensures invoices are actioned in a timely manner.

About you

The successful candidate will be a highly organised and accurate administrator, who has experience of finance administration and of working in a deadline driven environment, in a Higher Education Institution, or similarly complex organisation. They will have strong attention to detail, good planning skills, and the ability to manage a varied workload to ensure that HR and finance processes are completed on time.

The successful candidate will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to work cooperatively with colleagues and deliver a positive HR and Finance service to internal and external contacts.
