Salary: Grade 9, ranging from £41,771 - £46,142 per annum, plus a £9,358 per annum payable until 30/09/2027. You will be paid £55,500 per annum (£46,142 + £9,358)

Role summary

As a Registered Manager, you'll lead one of Somerset Council’s short break homes for children with disabilities, creating a safe, nurturing environment where children can thrive. You'll inspire and develop a dedicated team to deliver exceptional, child-centred care while ensuring the highest standards of quality and compliance.

Working closely with social care, health, education, and partner agencies, you'll drive positive outcomes through effective care planning, strong multi-agency collaboration, and continuous service improvement. Your leadership will help shape a high-performing service that promotes every child’s wellbeing, independence, and inclusion.

What you’ll do - key responsibilities

We’re working to improve the lives of Children in Somerset – and you’ll be a key part of that.

You’ll be managing The Elms - our short break homes for children with disabilities.

We’re rated Outstanding and already have a well-established, experienced and highly skilled team in place. We have great relationships with our children and their families and have done everything we can to create a fun, caring and supportive environment (with the occasional bit of fancy dress thrown in).

Your job will be to come in and keep things running in the right direction - maintaining the high levels of performance and culture that we’ve built.

You’ll benefit from administrative support to help free you up to focus on what matters, and our approach as a small, niche, committed short break service (we currently have one other home, which is also rated Outstanding). We know what we’re doing, so there isn’t a high training burden or a reliance on agency cover (in fact, we don’t use any at all).

We don’t mean to blow our own horn too much - but this really is a rare opportunity. Short break management roles don’t come along very often. Not only do we have a brilliant team, but the hours and days are kinder and more flexible than in other settings, allowing you to work in an incredibly rewarding role without sacrificing any semblance of work-life balance.

What you'll do:
Lead and manage the day-to-day running of the home, ensuring high-quality care and compliance with statutory standards.
Oversee budgets, staffing, recruitment, supervision, training and service performance.
Develop and monitor care plans, working closely with health professionals, families, schools and social care colleagues.
Build positive relationships with children, families and partner agencies to achieve the best outcomes.
Manage admissions, placements and service planning, ensuring each child's needs are fully considered.
Provide leadership in decision-making, safeguarding and service development.

What we’re looking for – knowledge, experience & skills

It’s a given that you’ll have substantial experience working within a care setting in a management role - but it’s also critical that you’re compassionate and committed to our children and our team, and ready to adopt our values as a service.

You’ll have day to day responsibility for the home, so you’ll need to understand high quality care, impact and quality assurance, and be comfortable managing and monitoring a budget.

You’ll also need to be willing to undertake a QCF Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent) if you don’t already hold the qualification.

Additional Information

Permanent contract. 37 Hours a week.
Based in Curry Rivel.
30 day’s annual leave (additional to bank holidays)
