Job Summary

Commis Chef - Award Winning Country Pub - South of York - £13ph

The Wenlock arms is an award winning country pub & restaurant based just outside of York.

We pride ourselves on fresh home cooked food, using local sourced ingredients from some of Yorkshire best suppliers.

Our teams are the beating heart of the pub and we do everything we can to ensure we provide a great place to work and develop skills for the future.

Join our team as a Commis Chef, where your passion for food and dedication to excellence will shine. In this energetic role, you will support the kitchen’s daily operations by assisting with food preparation, cooking, and maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to develop your culinary skills within a hospitality environment, working closely with experienced chefs and team members to deliver exceptional dining experiences. Your enthusiasm and teamwork will be vital in creating a lively, efficient kitchen atmosphere that delights our guests.

Responsibilities

Assist in preparing ingredients and cooking dishes according to established recipes and standards
Support the food production process by ensuring timely and accurate delivery of menu items
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including workstations, utensils, and storage areas
Follow all food safety regulations and hygiene practices diligently to uphold health standards
Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth kitchen operations during busy service periods
Supervise junior staff or trainees when required, providing guidance and support in food preparation tasks
Contribute to inventory management by monitoring stock levels and notifying supervisors of shortages or issues

Qualifications

Previous experience in a kitchen or hospitality environment is preferred but not mandatory; a strong willingness to learn is essential
Demonstrated knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, and kitchen safety protocols
Leadership qualities with some supervising experience or team management skills are advantageous
Passion for culinary arts with a keen eye for detail and quality control
Excellent communication skills to work effectively within a fast-paced team setting
Understanding of food safety standards and hygiene practices applicable in restaurant settings
Ability to stand for extended periods, work under pressure, and adapt quickly during service hours
