Full job description

Clubhouse & Community Operations Manager

The Role

Uckfield Rugby Club is looking for a practical and hands-on person to manage the day-to-day running of our clubhouse and help us develop its use by members, visitors and the wider community.

This is not intended to be a senior general management role. It is an operational role for somebody who is comfortable taking responsibility for the clubhouse while also being prepared to get involved in the day-to-day work when needed.

The successful candidate will help ensure the clubhouse is well run, welcoming, properly staffed and commercially sensible.

Main Responsibilities

The role will include:

Overseeing the day-to-day running of the clubhouse, bar and functions.
Organising staff rotas and supporting casual staff.
Managing bookings and enquiries for functions, meetings and community use.
Helping to increase use of the clubhouse and identify new income opportunities.
Managing stock, suppliers and general operating costs.
Maintaining good standards of customer service, cleanliness and presentation.
Dealing with routine operational and maintenance issues.
Ensuring relevant licensing, health & safety and food hygiene requirements are followed.
Supporting club events, match days and other activities as required.
Providing the Board with straightforward updates on bookings, staffing and general performance.

Hands-On Approach

This will be a hands-on position, particularly while use of the new clubhouse is being developed.

The Manager should be comfortable helping behind the bar, setting up rooms, dealing with customers and assisting with practical tasks when required.

We are looking for someone who is prepared to take ownership of the operation without expecting a large management team beneath them.

The Person

We are looking for someone who is:

Friendly, practical and well organised.
Comfortable managing people and dealing with customers.
Commercially aware and able to keep an eye on costs.
Able to work independently and use common sense.
Happy to work in a club and community environment.
Flexible enough to work some evenings and weekends.

Experience in hospitality, events, leisure, venue management or a similar environment would be useful, although rugby club experience is not essential.

Working Arrangements

The role will involve a degree of flexibility, with some evening and weekend work around matches, functions and events.

The Manager will not be expected to cover every hour the clubhouse is open and will be responsible for helping organise appropriate staffing.

The appointment will be subject to an initial three-month probationary period.

There maybe a bonus that would be linked to sensible and agreed measures such as growth in bookings, income, cost control and the overall performance of the clubhouse.

Overall Aim

The aim of the role is straightforward: to ensure the clubhouse runs well, provides a good experience for members and visitors, and gradually builds its use and income without creating unnecessary overhead or complexity.

Pay: £30,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
