JOB DESCRIPTION:

Job Purpose: By minimising rental arrears, we help residents to sustain their accommodation and prevent them from carrying a debt. With experience in finance and great attention to detail, you will guide the housing teams in continuing to achieve excellent results in maximising rental income, providing ongoing specialist support around rents, arrears, benefit queries and recovery of ex-residents’ debts.

Along with liaising with housing coaches, DWP, local landlords and other external agencies, you will be expected to build supportive relationships with residents who struggle to manage payments, helping them to achieve independence in their own lives by maintaining their rent payments.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Provide support and assistance to housing staff on complex issues related to rent management and advise staff of any benefit changes or updates
Support current and ex-residents with clearing debt, completing and submitting information to Housing Benefit & undertaking recovery processes as necessary.
Provide appropriate information regarding benefits and tenancies to the Local Authority in a timely manner to ensure that we receive all eligible income
Lead regular Rent Action Plan (RAP) meetings, input payments and manage debts/ credits on Inform, making financial adjustments to resident accounts when required
Reconcile bad debt workbook for current and past residents explaining bad debt and action taken to recover
Liaise with other housing professionals, benefits, welfare agencies, and other landlords as appropriate
To adhere to and operate within the rent arrears and voids policy and procedures minimising voids and maximising income, where applicable
Work closely with the Finance team and external suppliers, including utility companies, to resolve queries, reconcile accounts, and ensure accurate charging and recovery of costs associated with properties and tenancies.
Undertake all core training required for this post and other training and professional development activities as required.

Good all round standard of education

Evidence of CPD

AAT L3 Certificate or Diploma

Skills & abilities:

Excellent analytical skills to assess and manage rent payments

Ability to work effectively with a team to achieve targets

High level of initiative with the ability to prioritise and organise workload

and work well under pressure

Competent in numeracy and record keeping with strong attention to detail

Competent in ICT with ability to effectively use housing management

software systems

Good written and verbal communication skills and the capacity to engage

and communicate with individuals at all levels

Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, with experience of producing management reports and analysing rent arrears and void performance data.

Ability to forge relationships whilst maintaining professional boundaries

Knowledge:

Knowledge of housing income streams & the benefits system, particularly Universal Credit.

A good understanding of the experiences and issues facing those who have

experienced homelessness

Understanding the issues of those experiencing financial hardship/budgeting

difficulties and how to address this

Good understanding of safeguarding and what constitutes abuse

Knowledge of local Communities, and voluntary organisations and agencies

General:
