Vocational Learning and Work Experience Coordinator
Redruth, Cornwall
22.5 hours per week | Fixed term to August 2027 (continuation subject to funding)

Cornwall Neighbourhoods for Change (CN4C) is a charity and a social enterprise that aims to transform the quality of life for people, places and communities.

We’ve been around since 2001 and are focused on affecting change that will make lives better, make Cornwall fairer and combat inequality and injustice.

We are now looking for a Vocational Learning & Work Experience Coordinator to join our team, supporting young people aged 12 to 24 to develop skills for adulthood, employment, further learning and community life.

This role will be based in Redruth and will be 22.5 hours per week, worked across 3 to 5 days per week depending on preference.

The Role

As Vocational Learning & Work Experience Coordinator, you will join our small team working with young people on our educational programme. You will lead on securing meaningful work experience placements, volunteering opportunities, employer encounters and community-based vocational learning opportunities for learners aged 12 to 24. You will build and maintain strong relationships with employers, local businesses, voluntary sector organisations and community partners to create opportunities that are safe, purposeful and linked to learner interests, aspirations and progression.

A key part of this role will be ensuring learner voice is at the centre of vocational learning and work experience. You will work directly with learners to understand their interests, strengths, barriers and future goals, and you will co-design opportunities with them so that placements, careers events and vocational projects are meaningful, accessible and relevant. You will also support the planning and delivery of careers-related events, such as employer visits, workplace visits, mock interviews, enterprise activities, careers days and learner-led projects.

The role will include assessing and collating evidence against vocational units. You will support tutors and learning support staff to understand what evidence is needed, help identify gaps, and ensure work experience, employer engagement and practical learning activities contribute effectively to learner portfolios and qualification outcomes.

You will work closely with the coordination and management team to support the ongoing development of the provision, helping to embed vocational learning, employability, careers education and work experience across the learner journey.

You will also liaise with employers and placement providers to ensure learners are appropriately supported, reasonable adjustments are understood, and placements are suitable, safe and purposeful. This may include supporting learners before, during and after placements with preparation, travel planning, confidence building, reflection and review.

You will be part of a collaborative and committed team that makes a real difference to the lives of young people in Cornwall.

About You

You’ll be someone who genuinely cares about supporting young people to succeed and who is confident in building positive relationships with learners, families, and professionals.

You will bring:

Experience of working with young people with SEND, SEMH and/or additional needs
Understanding of trauma-informed and person-centred approaches
Experience supporting learner engagement, attendance, or wellbeing
Confidence in building relationships and motivating young people
Experience of building relationships with employers, partners or community organisations
Experience of supporting work experience, volunteering, employability activity or community-based learning
Strong communication, organisational and teamwork skills
Empathy, patience, and the ability to support young people with a range of needs

It would be great if you also have:

Experience working in alternative provision or post-16 education
Experience of assessing learner evidence against qualification criteria
Knowledge of EHCP processes and outcomes
Experience of partnership working with external agencies or organisations
A qualification in youth work, education, employment support or a related field
A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle

You’ll need to be flexible with your working hours, able to support activities and trips, and travel across Cornwall as required.

Placement in this role will be subject to receipt of two satisfactory references and a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check.

This is a part-time role (22.5 hours per week. The hours can be worked across 3 to 5 days a week depending on preference. The contract is fixed-term until 31st August 2027, with continuation subject to funding.
