Domiciliary Care Worker / Home Care Assistant

Job Summary

A Domiciliary Care Worker delivers high-quality, person-centred care to individuals in their own homes. The role involves assisting with personal care, daily living activities, medication support, companionship, and promoting independence while ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of service users.

Key Responsibilities

Provide personal care, including washing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
Assist with mobility and safe transfers using appropriate equipment where required.
Support clients with meal preparation, feeding, and maintaining adequate nutrition and hydration.
Administer or assist with medication in accordance with care plans and organisational policies.
Carry out light household tasks such as cleaning, laundry, and shopping.
Offer companionship and emotional support to reduce loneliness and improve well-being.
Accompany clients to appointments, social activities, or community outings where required.
Observe and report changes in clients' physical or mental health to supervisors or healthcare professionals.
Maintain accurate records of care provided and complete required documentation.
Follow safeguarding, health and safety, infection prevention, and confidentiality procedures.
Respect clients' dignity, privacy, cultural beliefs, and personal preferences at all times.
Work collaboratively with families, healthcare professionals, and colleagues to deliver effective care.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

Compassionate, caring, and patient nature.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Basic literacy and numeracy skills for record keeping.
Understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality.
Willingness to undertake relevant training.
A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle may be required, depending on the role.

Desirable Qualifications

Level 2 or Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (or willingness to work towards it).
Previous experience in domiciliary care, residential care, or a similar support role.
Training in first aid, moving and handling, medication administration, and dementia care.

Working Conditions

Flexible working hours, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
Regular travel between clients' homes.
Working independently while receiving support from supervisors and the care team.
