THE POST – REQ000610 - Lecturer in Education (English and Literacy)

The Department of Education and Social Work is seeking a Lecturer (fixed term) in Secondary English and Literacy within Initial Teacher Education. Applicants should hold an undergraduate degree in English (or related discipline), a secondary English teaching qualification, and be qualified to Master’s level (or near completion). Fellowship of Advance HE is highly desirable.

The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality, research-informed teaching and play a key role in curriculum design, learning and teaching, and assessment. Strong knowledge of contemporary pedagogies, co-creation, active learning, and digital education is essential.

You will be expected to produce high‑quality research outputs appropriate to your career stage and demonstrate potential to secure external research funding. The role involves interdisciplinary collaboration to enhance student experience, attainment, and graduate outcomes.

The successful candidate should have the following:

An undergraduate degree in English or a closely related discipline.
A teaching qualification in Secondary English.
Full registration with GTC Scotland.
A Master’s degree (or be near completion).
Evidence of experience using a range of pedagogical approaches in teaching English at secondary level.
Evidence of learning, teaching and assessment experience within higher education.
Strong knowledge and understanding of contemporary pedagogies.
Experience in module and/or programme administration.
Evidence of designing and delivering co‑creative, active learning and assessment.
