Full job description

We're looking for a Domestic Abuse Officer to join our team based in St Helens, supporting customers across the North West. This is a rewarding and impactful role where you'll support customers experiencing domestic abuse, helping them to overcome barriers, improve their safety, and sustain their tenancies. You'll work directly with survivors to assess risk, develop safety plans, coordinate interventions, and connect individuals and families with appropriate support services. Working in partnership with internal teams and external agencies, you'll play a key role in safeguarding vulnerable adults and children, responding to domestic abuse disclosures, and ensuring survivors receive timely, person-centred support that enables them to regain control of their lives.

Working pattern:

This role operates on a hybrid working arrangement. Following successful completion of your induction and probationary period, you'll be expected to work from our St Helens office on Mondays and Fridays, with Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays worked either from the office or agilely, depending on business need and personal preference.

Please note, the role includes participation in a duty rota every four weeks. During your designated duty week, you will be required to work full-time from the St Helens office, Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm, to provide a responsive service and support customers and colleagues effectively.

What you'll be doing:

Managing a caseload of domestic abuse cases across varying levels of risk, ensuring survivors receive support tailored to their individual circumstances.
Acting as a point of contact for domestic abuse advice, guidance, disclosures and referrals across the organisation.
Completing domestic abuse risk assessments, including DASH or MERIT assessments, and implementing appropriate interventions.
Providing immediate safety and crisis responses, including emergency accommodation referrals, safeguarding referrals, lock changes and liaison with emergency services where required.
Developing and reviewing safety plans in partnership with survivors and relevant agencies to reduce risk and improve outcomes.
Representing the organisation at MARAC meetings and contributing specialist housing knowledge to multi-agency risk management discussions.
Making referrals to specialist internal and external support services to meet the needs of survivors and their families.
Identifying and reporting safeguarding concerns relating to vulnerable adults and children in line with multi-agency safeguarding procedures.
Maintaining accurate records, risk assessments, support plans, interventions and outcomes on case management systems.
Promoting survivor empowerment, helping individuals recognise the dynamics of domestic abuse and supporting them to make informed choices.
Providing advice, guidance and support to colleagues, helping to develop organisational knowledge and best practice in responding to domestic abuse.

What we're looking for:

Experience of working with individuals and families affected by domestic abuse.
Knowledge of domestic abuse legislation, risk assessment processes and best practice interventions.
Experience of carrying out assessments, developing support plans and achieving positive outcomes for customers.
Experience of managing a varied caseload and working effectively with multiple agencies and stakeholders.
Knowledge and experience of safeguarding practices and procedures relating to adults and children.
The ability to remain calm and make informed decisions in crisis situations, balancing risk and customer needs.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to establish trust while maintaining professional boundaries.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to maintain accurate records using a range of ICT systems and software packages.
A resilient, motivated and compassionate approach, with a commitment to equality, diversity and survivor-led practice.
GCSE Grade 3/C or above (or equivalent experience) and a commitment to professional development. A CIH Level 3 Domestic Abuse qualification, or willingness to work towards one, would be advantageous.

Candidates will be invited to attend a competency-based interview where we'll explore your experience and knowledge for the role. Interviews will take place at our St Helens Office on Tuesday 8th September 2026.
