Full job description

Job Overview

We are looking for somebody to take over the day-to-day running of our predominantly wet-led village pub to free up the landlord to oversee other ventures. The below list of responsibilities reads a bit like we're difficult to work for and I can assure you that we're not. Our pub has seen a large resurgence in numbers since we took it over two years ago; it's full of great people and we're a relatively young, outgoing team. We're looking for someone to join our little family, someone that we can trust and can continue to develop the pub into a top community asset in the landlords absence.

Responsibilities

The job will be split into two roles; 3 shifts in the week will be running the front of house (we typically only have one member of staff on unless there are events) with the other two shifts - Friday and Saturday - manning the kitchen. We are not a high volume food outlet and only serve easy to construct fresh, stone baked pizzas. So whilst some previous kitchen experience would be useful it isn't essential. All training will be provided on the job.
The landlord will initially still be involved with a lot of the back of house activities (rotas, emails, beer orders) but these responsibilities can be handed down in time if required.
From the bar point of view, the successful candidate will help maintain overall cleanliness inside and outside of the pub, as well as our 5 star cellar. Cask ale line cleaning is to be done once a week, the keg lines every 3 (due to beerflex technology we have installed in the cellar).
In the kitchen, food orders must be placed every week and the overall cleanliness maintained to a good standard; help will be provided with this. Daily check sheets (on the days the kitchen is in operation) will need completing to satisfy EHO requirements. A Food Hygiene & Safety Level 2 certificate will be paid for by us if you don't already have one.
The employee running the day shift has to clean the pub prior to set up, which takes approximately an hour.

Skills

Experience working in hospitality. Whilst we don't necessarily require previous management experience, we do need someone with an understanding of how the industry works and how to deal common problems that may arise.
A driving license. We are a village pub, so unless you live in it you'll start to lose money on taxis or exhaust relatives patience when it comes to pick up time which could start to become problematic when you can't get the last two locals out.
A good sense of humour (or at least the ability to pretend to have one) - our locals think they're funny sometimes, you'll need to be able to play along.
