Recruitment and Sales Executive
Remote, part time
20 hours per week
£15 per hour plus uncapped commission
Realistic earnings of £1,600 to £1,950 or more per month
Build your career with a growing education company
The Degree Gap is growing quickly, and we are looking for the first person to join our core team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their career who wants more responsibility, commercial experience and progression than they might receive in a traditional entry level role.
You will work directly with the founders, gain experience across sales and recruitment, and play a genuine role in shaping how the company grows.
You will not be sitting quietly in the background. From the beginning, you will speak with prospective customers, identify talented tutors, improve our processes and contribute directly to the growth of the business.
What you will be doing
The role is divided between sales and recruitment.
On the sales side, you will contact parents who have attended our webinars, downloaded educational resources or made an enquiry. You will learn about the support their child needs, explain how The Degree Gap works and arrange suitable consultation calls with the founders.
On the recruitment side, you will review tutor applications, speak with promising candidates, conduct initial screening calls and progress the strongest applicants to a founder interview.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Calling parents who have already engaged with The Degree Gap
- Understanding each student’s subjects, year group and academic needs
- Explaining our tutoring service clearly and confidently
- Booking qualified consultation calls with the founders
- Following up with interested families
- Responding professionally to questions and objections
- Reviewing tutor applications
- Conducting initial tutor screening calls
- Assessing candidates based on experience, communication and reliability
- Progressing suitable tutors to the next stage
- Keeping clear notes and updating our systems
- Helping us improve our sales and recruitment processes
Why this role is different
This is not a repetitive call centre position or a narrow recruitment role.
You will gain practical experience in sales, recruitment, customer communication, interviewing, business development and company operations.
You will work closely with the founders and receive direct guidance, feedback and responsibility. As the company grows, there will be opportunities for the right person to take ownership of larger areas of the business and progress into a more senior position.
This role could be particularly well suited to a recent graduate or young professional who is ambitious, confident and interested in education, recruitment, sales or entrepreneurship.
Hours and flexibility
This is a fully remote role.
You will work 20 hours per week on a flexible basis.
You must be available for at least two weekday evenings each week, normally between 4pm and 8pm, as this is when most parents are available.
You will also attend one weekly online team meeting with the founders.
Our busiest periods are September, January and the spring examination period.
Pay and commission
The base rate is £15 per hour.
You will also receive £15 commission for every consultation call you book where the family attends.
Once fully established, realistic total earnings are approximately £1,600 to £1,950 or more per month.
Commission is uncapped, so strong performance will be rewarded.
What we are looking for
You should have:
- At least two years of experience in sales, recruitment, customer service or business development
- Strong telephone communication skills
- Confidence speaking with both parents and professional candidates
- A good understanding of GCSEs, A Levels and the UK education system
- Strong GCSE and A Level results
- Good organisation and attention to detail
- The ability to work independently in a remote role
- The confidence to handle objections and rejection professionally
- Availability for at least two weekday evenings each week
Tutoring experience would be valuable, but it is not essential.
The ideal candidate
You will be confident, personable and commercially motivated.
You will enjoy speaking with people, asking thoughtful questions and helping them decide on the right next step.
You will be comfortable working towards targets and motivated by the opportunity to increase your earnings through commission.
You will also have good judgement when assessing tutor candidates and be able to recognise strong communication, professionalism and reliability.
Most importantly, you will be excited by the opportunity to join a growing company at an early stage, work directly with its founders and build a role that can develop as the business expands.
About The Degree Gap
The Degree Gap is a fast growing online tutoring company supporting students across the UK, primarily at GCSE and A Level.
We personally match families with experienced tutors, graduates and qualified teachers based on each student’s subject, level, goals and personality.
Demand for our services is growing rapidly, and we are now building the team needed for the next stage of the company.
This role will be central to that growth. You will help more families access the right academic support while also recruiting the excellent tutors needed to deliver it.
