Job Description:

Job Summary

We are seeking a hardworking and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join the Back of House team at our Izakaya specialising in Yakiniku. This is a great opportunity for someone with a good level of kitchen experience who is eager to work, keen to learn, and looking to develop their skills further in a fast-paced, authentic Japanese dining environment. You will work closely with our chefs and Kitchen Manager, supporting every stage of food preparation and service.

Duties

Assist with food preparation, including chopping, marinating, and portioning meat and vegetables for Yakiniku and other dishes
Support chefs during service, ensuring dishes are prepared quickly and to standard
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of prep stations, equipment, and storage areas
Follow food safety and hygiene procedures at all times
Assist with stock rotation, storage, and basic inventory checks
Wash and maintain kitchen equipment and utensils to a high standard
Learn and follow recipes and preparation techniques specific to Japanese and Yakiniku cuisine
Support the wider kitchen team during busy periods and special events
Report any equipment issues or stock shortages to senior kitchen staff

Qualifications

Previous kitchen experience, ideally gained in a busy restaurant environment
A good level of kitchen skill, including confident knife work and food preparation ability
A genuine interest in Japanese cuisine, or a strong willingness to learn
Understanding of basic food hygiene and safety practices
Reliable, punctual, and able to stay calm and efficient under pressure
A team player with a positive attitude and a strong work ethic
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required

This role is ideal for someone looking to build a culinary career within an authentic, fast-paced Japanese kitchen, working alongside experienced chefs and gaining hands-on experience with Yakiniku and traditional techniques.
