Full job description

GLL is looking for a Library Development Officer to work 36 hours a week with North Hykeham, Lincoln as your base. If you have the skills and ambition to join us a Library Development Officer, there's never been a more exciting time. This is more than a job, it's a career.

As a Library Development Officer, you will provide professional training, advice and support to nine community-run libraries in the Lincoln and West Lindsey areas of Lincolnshire. You may infrequently be required to work some evenings and Saturday mornings.

As a Library Development Officer, you will focus on developing the libraries to promote and offer more services to the local community. You will provide support to the volunteers who run the community libraries by visiting each hub on a regular basis or contact via telephone or email. You will be on hand to deal with any queries received, some of which can be quite complex, but mainly relate to operations, IT and stock movement. Your passion for libraries and community engagement will be apparent as you help the volunteers to develop their skills as you will deliver training to new volunteers as well as refresher training to existing volunteers.

What you need:

Ideally come from a library background, with some knowledge of working with volunteers
Excellent understanding and experience of all library operations
Experience of using a Library Management System is essential
Understanding of stock management and development
Strong people skills
Excellent ICT knowledge
Numeracy, literacy and communication skills as well as excellent administration skills
Sound knowledge of Safeguarding, Health and Safety, Equality and Diversity and Records Management
Effective time management skills; organised, efficient and thriving on variety
Passion and personality
Your own car for travel between libraries, where mileage will be compensated

What you’ll do:

Provide professional training, advice and support to community hub volunteers
Ensure regular visits are made to each site to support the volunteers
Ensure effective performance management to deliver outcomes in line with service delivery contracts
Attend Community Hub Volunteer Meetings as appropriate
Remain up-to-date and compliant with all relevant legislation, organisational procedures, policies and professional codes of conduct to uphold standards of best practice, ensuring this information is shared with volunteers
Take responsibility for stock management at sites, maintaining stock in good condition; reacting to local needs by transferring stock between sites and purchasing new stock to specific guidelines
Working closely with the other Library Development Officers to support all the community hubs in Lincolnshire
Work with colleagues in other teams through matrix working to ensure that services are delivered effectively at sites, including contribution of suggestions and development of ideas
Compile and complete statistical returns as required
