JOB TITLE: Part time Youth Worker
PLACE OF WORK: Crewkerne
CONTRACT: Fixed Term ending 31st March 2027 To be extended subject to funding
HOURS OF WORK: Tuesday evenings - 4 - 6 hours per week
REPORTS TO: Project manager
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Voluntary Youth Leaders, Volunteers
FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Subs and Tuck
Main Purpose of the Job
The Community Youth Project is an independent Charitable Incorporated Organisation charity which provides youth work services to communities within South Somerset. The organisation is run by a voluntary group of Trustees and a Management Group and is supported by a paid part time Project Manager.
The Youth Worker will be line managed by the Project manager.
As a whole, the project aims to increase the quality and choice of opportunities for young people across their communities by delivering an excellent programme that :
· meets the needs of the young people of age 8 – 17 years within each CYP community;
· increases the number of young people participating regularly in out-of-school education and leisure opportunities;
· Involved young people in decision making, design and delivery of youth programme and encourages participation within the local community
· enhances the range and quality of opportunities available for young people;
· develops and supports volunteers to work with young people.
To achieve this, the Youth Worker in Crewkernel will work closely with the Project manager and local residents.
The aim of youth service provision in Crewkerne:
To provide a safe, supervised environment for young people to socialize, learn new skills, and participate in recreational activities with an aim to foster personal development, build community connections, and offer support and mentorship.
To encourage and support young people’s active participation in the Youth Council Group.
To provide signposting information, practical support, and guidance to improve both their physical and mental well-being
To achieve this, the Youth Worker(s) in Crewkerne will work closely with the Community Youth Project manager and Crewkerne Town Council, local agencies and local residents.
The youth provision in Crewkerne is currently funded through a grant from Crewkerne Town Council and is based at the George Reynolds Centre.
Duties, Responsibilities and Accountabilities
1. To lead the development, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of youth sessions at Crewkerne George Reynolds Centre on Tuesday evenings.
2. Promoting and increasing attendance at Crewkerne youth provision through social media, leafleting, outreach at schools and other methods
3. To deliver outreach within the community as and when required
4. To develop the Crewkerne youth council, facilitating youth council meetings and linking the youth council with Town Council ensuring young people’s voice and opinion are heard at Town Council level.
5. To build transformational effective professional relationships with young people aged 8 -17 years
6. To support the development and involvement of young helpers in centre based delivery
7. To lead the planning, coordination, delivery, documentation and evaluation of programme delivery
8. To work as lead youth worker during face to face sessions ensuring and providing leadership for effective team working during sessions.
9. To purchase resources and tuck for face to face sessions
10. To ensure all sessional paperwork is completed and regularly uploaded onto the CYP One drive
11. To write a quarterly report for the Crewkerne Town Council
12. To support the engagement of young people in community events as and when required
13. To co-lead the development and delivery of a range of community events that support young people’s engagement in their community
14. The relaying of building maintenance matters to the building committee
15. Initiate and work with partner agencies and local communities as required in order to maximise the opportunities available for young people.
16. Enable young people to be actively involved in decision making.
17. Ensure that all youth work is conducted in accordance with a consistent set of policies and procedures that meet statutory requirements and best practice guidance, including Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity and Data Protection.
18. Ensure that all risk assessments and safety inspections are carried out and appropriate records kept for all activities in relation to young people.
19. To implement Safer working practice.
20. Record the output and outcomes of work and programmes for the purposes of monitoring and evaluation and ensure that monitoring and evaluation of youth work takes place.
21. Prepare quarterly reports and where required attend Town or Parish Council and other community panel meetings.
22. Attend monthly supervision and CYP Team meetings - Online
23. To attend induction and mandatory training as required within the first two months of appointment: Induction with project manager, Safeguarding ( On line), Food Safety and hygiene ( On line) and Qualified First Aid ( In person)
24. Such other duties as may be required and delegated, commensurate with the responsibilities of this post.

Problem Solving and Decision Making
The post holder will provide advisory and practical support to community volunteers and occasionally project staff, and will be expected to demonstrate compliance in the implementation of CYP policies and procedures. The post holder will be expected to deliver in relation to the annual Service level agreement.
Working Environment
Sports Field during May -September months, Community / Village Hall and community during Winter months.
Regular evening youth sessions.
Regular attendance at staff meet meetings and professional supervision
Considerable unsociable hours, evenings and weekends.
Some working outside.
Terms and Conditions
The rate of pay is £14.28 ( Level 2 qualified and or 2years experience of leading open access youth work provision) per hour, £15.50 ( Level 3 qualified )4 hours per week
The post is subject to satisfactory medical clearance and requires an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and satisfactory completion of a six-month probationary period.
The work will involve evening and weekend commitments and the post holder is required to deliver a regular series of evening sessions.
The annual leave entitlement is 5.6 weeks (pro-rata).
An appropriate travel allowance will be paid, for legitimate travel other than home to work.
