Full job description

Job Title: Commis Chef

Reporting to: Head Chef / Sous Chef

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in preparing and cooking food according to hotel recipes and standards.
Prepare ingredients, including washing, peeling, chopping, and measuring.
Support chefs during breakfast, lunch, dinner, weddings, and special events.
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen workstations.
Follow food hygiene, HACCP, and health and safety regulations.
Store food correctly and minimise waste.
Monitor stock levels and report shortages.
Ensure all dishes are presented to the required standard.
Work effectively as part of the kitchen team during busy service periods.
Assist with receiving and storing deliveries.

Skills and Qualifications:

Passion for food and hospitality.
Basic food preparation skills.
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced kitchen.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Willingness to learn and develop culinary skills.
Food Hygiene Certificate (desirable).
Previous kitchen experience is an advantage but not always essential.

Personal Qualities:

Reliable and punctual.
Positive attitude and eagerness to learn.
Attention to detail.
Flexible with shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Working Environment:

Hotel restaurant, bar, banquet, and event kitchens.
Rotating shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
Standing for long periods and working in a busy kitchen environment.

Organised and able to multitask.
Positive attitude and team player.
Calm and professional when dealing with guest concerns.
