Full job description

Main Purpose:

Responsible under the direction of the Course Manager for the maintenance and development of the golf course and associated areas, ensuring high standards are maintained at all times to ensure those who have access to this facility appreciate its functionality and environment, thus returning again as satisfied customers.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

- Maintain the greens, fairways, trees etc to the required standard ensuring even wear and tear through effective green keeping practices. Typical tasks and knowledge required:

Mowing banks, rough and semi rough areas, surrounds and approaches, tees, greens and fairways.
Scarifying/verticutting turf and aerating turf.
Applying nutrition and top dressing.
Repairing divots
Irrigating turf
Identifying and controlling weeds/Identifying and controlling pests
Identifying and control of turf diseases and disorders
Preparing ground to establish turf
Establishing turf
Identifying grasses on the golf course
Marking of hazards, out of bounds and ground under repair
Moving tee markers
Maintaining bunkers
Maintaining golf course furniture
Changing holes
Rolling turf
Driving a tractor with implements*
Undertaking routine machine maintenance*
Preparing machinery for use*
Preparing machinery for storage*
Measuring green speed and interpreting the results
The rules of golf relating to golf course maintenance
Preparing ground to establish plants on the golf course
Establishing plants on the golf course
Maintaining trees and shrubs on the golf course
Identifying plants on the golf course

* Subject to any age restrictions established under health and safety law and the need to have sufficient training. There are also restrictions concerning the pruning of trees at height which must be observed.

- Assist with the routine maintenance tasks and operate Golf Course equipment and agricultural machinery used in maintaining the Golf Course.

- Carry out all remedial and preventative work as required on allocated areas. Be available for duty during adverse weather conditions i.e. snow to grit pedestrian pathways and clear roads.

- Assist in the presentation of golf and other sports facilities for special events to agreed standards

- Compliance with all Club, Hotel and Leaderboard policies and procedures and legal requirements e.g. health & safety, hygiene, fire prevention, employment law, etc.

- To undertake any other duty and responsibility considered to be consistent with the role.
