Full job description

Job Overview

This structured freelance role will support Rockinghorse’s Wellbeing Service, which exists to help children and families with their mental health and wellbeing during hospital treatment. This innovative service organises activities and workshops for patients of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital (‘The Alex’) in Brighton and finds creative ways to support the wellbeing of parents, carers and staff.  

Rockinghorse Children's Charity is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All successful applicants will be expected to share this commitment. 

Duties

Support the day-to-day coordination of the Wellbeing Service, helping to ensure that in-house and partner delivered project activities and sessions run smoothly  
Co-deliver on site Wellbeing Service activities such as the therapeutic gardening group, arts and wellbeing group, seasonal arts and wellbeing activities  
Support reflective spaces, skill sharing spaces and self-care activities for staff at The Alex as well as practitioner teams and volunteers delivering activities for the Wellbeing Service and The Alex 
Co-deliver off site Wellbeing Service psychosocial activities for children, young people, families and staff (e.g., Woodland Wellbeing, sea swimming)
Work collaboratively with the Wellbeing Service team, volunteers and hospital administrative staff to ensure that logistical details such as venue coordination and communication with third party partners are taken care of in a timely, organised manner 
Support our “Live at the Alex” music series, by helping gather artist information and photos, and producing posters and leaflets  
Assist with organising quarterly staff lunches, including contacting potential caterers and managing partnership and safeguarding agreements  
Support volunteers working with the Wellbeing team, offering inductions, site tours, check ins and co-ordination support 
Maintain a positive working relationship with staff, volunteers and external partners  
Contribute to service evaluation through collecting photographs, video content and qualitative and quantitative feedback data. 
Obtain and record participant consent in line with organisational policies and procedures 
Assist with the preparation of reports, summaries and wellbeing impact/ROI information for funding and evaluation purposes  
Attend Wellbeing Service Steering Group and Wellbeing hub meetings, providing minute-taking support for steering group meetings  
Uphold data privacy requirements and handle information safely and responsibly

Person Specification

Essential

Registered healthcare professional, counsellor, therapist or wellbeing practitioner.
Minimum two years' post-qualification experience.
Experience working with children, young people and families.
Arts, nature-based, creative or integrated therapeutic experience or training.
Can demonstrate a good understanding of the wellbeing space, including working in a sensitive and trauma-informed environment 
Strong project coordination and organisational skills.
Ability to work independently as a freelancer.
Experience of safeguarding and risk assessment.

Desirable

Experience in hospitals or healthcare settings.
Experience of holding reflective practice and skill sharing spaces for health care professionals.
Ability to bring dynamic and flexible ideas around building projects and supporting children, young people, families and staff in the hospital and healthcare setting.
Experience of supporting volunteers and student placements.
Experience collecting outcome and evaluation data.

Training and support: 

Successful applicants will be provided with role-specific induction and a tour of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital 
Freelance Wellbeing Service Co-ordinator and Practitioner will have regular contact with our Wellbeing Service team, and a monthly in-person supervision session with Wellbeing Service Manager, Jess Linton 
External clinical supervisor sessions with co-facilitators of specific projects

As this role requires hospital presence, Freelance Wellbeing Service Co-ordinator and Practitioner will be asked to undergo a more comprehensive onboarding process, as mandated by the NHS Trust (online training, enhanced DBS check, referencing and Occupational Health assessment)
