About PSP IT
PSP IT is a growing technology company specialising in digital transformation, bespoke software development, legacy system support and enterprise technology solutions.
We work with organisations across a range of sectors, delivering reliable, scalable and business-critical software solutions.
As our portfolio of projects continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Manual Software Tester to join our team in Spalding and play an important role in ensuring the quality and reliability of the solutions we deliver.
About the Role
As a Manual Software Tester, you will be responsible for thoroughly testing software applications throughout the development lifecycle, identifying defects and ensuring solutions meet agreed business and technical requirements before release.
This is a hands-on testing role requiring excellent attention to detail, a methodical approach and the ability to think beyond predefined test scripts.
You will work closely with Developers, Business Analysts, Project Managers and other members of the delivery team to understand requirements, develop appropriate test scenarios and ensure issues are identified and resolved as early as possible.
Key Responsibilities
- Review business and functional requirements to understand expected system behaviour.
- Create detailed test plans, test cases, test scenarios and test scripts.
- Perform manual functional testing of web-based and business applications.
- Carry out regression, integration, system and end-to-end testing.
- Support and undertake User Acceptance Testing (UAT) where required.
- Test new functionality, enhancements, bug fixes and system changes.
- Identify, investigate, document and report software defects clearly and accurately.
- Reproduce defects and provide Developers with sufficient information and evidence to support investigation.
- Re-test resolved defects and confirm successful resolution.
- Carry out regression testing following system changes and releases.
- Test software across different browsers, devices and environments where appropriate.
- Validate data and system behaviour against business requirements.
- Test integrations and data flows between systems.
- Maintain accurate test documentation, results and supporting evidence.
- Work closely with Developers and Business Analysts to clarify requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Identify gaps, inconsistencies and ambiguities within requirements before development or release.
- Provide clear feedback regarding software quality, outstanding defects and release readiness.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews and retrospectives.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of PSP's testing processes and quality standards.
Essential Skills & Experience
The successful candidate will have:
- Commercial experience working as a Manual Software Tester, QA Tester or Test Analyst.
- Strong hands-on experience of manual software testing.
- Experience creating and executing test plans, test cases and test scripts.
- Good understanding of functional, regression, integration and system testing.
- Experience testing web-based applications.
- Strong experience identifying, documenting and managing defects.
- Experience using test and defect management tools such as Azure DevOps, Jira or equivalent.
- Good understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
- Experience working within an Agile/Scrum environment.
- Ability to interpret business requirements, user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to testing.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate defects and quality concerns clearly and professionally.
- Confidence working closely with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
Desirable Experience
Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:
- API testing using tools such as Postman or Swagger.
- SQL and database testing.
- Testing integrations between multiple applications and systems.
- Microsoft Azure and Azure DevOps.
- Accessibility testing.
- Cross-browser and responsive testing.
- Performance testing.
- Testing Microsoft/.NET applications.
- Testing CMS, CRM, ERP or e-commerce platforms.
- Experience within digital transformation projects.
- ISTQB Foundation Level or another recognised software testing qualification.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who is naturally inquisitive and enjoys understanding how systems work – and finding the scenarios where they don't.
You will need to be comfortable questioning requirements and considering the application from an end-user perspective rather than simply working through predefined test scripts.
The successful candidate will be organised, methodical and thorough, with the confidence to raise quality concerns and challenge assumptions where necessary.
You should take ownership of your testing activities and be able to provide the wider project team with a clear understanding of software quality, outstanding defects and potential risks ahead of release.
Why Join PSP IT?
This is an opportunity to join a growing technology business and work alongside experienced Developers, Business Analysts and Project Managers on a variety of technically interesting projects.
You will have exposure to different applications, technologies and business environments while playing an important role in maintaining the quality of the solutions PSP delivers to its clients.
