Overview
This graduate position is an exciting full-time two year graduate training programme with an attractive starting salary at Celtic Harmony Camp, England’s largest reconstructed Iron Age settlement, Bourne Wood, near Hertford.
As a Graduate Trainee you will lead school groups of 30 pupils in costume to deliver school trip experiences and meet & greet visitors at The Woodland Bistro two weekends a month, taking orders and introducing visitors to the 9-hole Disc Golf course as well as assisting with private and corporate events. You will assist with the leading of activities and site/facilities maintenance at Celtic Harmony Camp.
The role involves in-house training to deliver Prehistory experiences and management development alongside external training in areas from marketing, hospitality, impact measurement and fundraising. You will have your own mentor as part of our award winning education team in a beautiful woodland environment. Celtic Harmony Camp is a rural location so your own transport is essential, East Hertfordshire is a great location in the South East just a stone’s throw from London.
The role involves assisting with preparation of educational resources, workshop areas and overnight roundhouses ready for the summer season. You will progress to planning and leading activities, developing new visitor experiences and communicating proactively across the team to ensure effective delivery of Celtic Harmony Camp’s Prehistory Day & Overnight Experiences for visitors (schools and the general public).

The Graduate Trainee position involves dressing in costume, assisting in the Bistro kitchen and front-of-house, site maintenance, admin and communication.
This position is based on 40 hours week on a monthly rota with 2 weekends in the month
Qualifications, experience & behaviours required for this role.
- Degree in Hospitality, Archaeology, Humanities, History, Outdoor education, conservation or other relevant discipline.
- A demonstrable interest in the outdoors, working with children and Prehistory.
- Engaged, motivated, enthusiastic and willing to follow instruction and learn.
- Able to use your initiative
- Ability to work in a team
- Adaptable with a “can do” attitude.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional planning and organisational skills for your own time and work.
- A good level of physical fitness to undertake varied and ‘all-weather’ woodland work.
- Full driving licence and access to your own transport due to the location of the site.

Main Duties:
- Assisting and progressing to leading weekday school day and residential trips, as per the schools operations standard and industry standards, e.g. Learning Outside the Classroom quality badge standards.
- Assisting with preparations of residential school trips including cleaning and laying the mats in dormitory roundhouses.
- Assist in preparation of contingency activities in case of wet weather
- Assist in managing supply of materials for education days
- Ensure all information and relevant forms are in place before visits
- Gather feedback information through contact with teachers, children and parents
- Assist in developing new educational activities
- Work with the education team both staff and volunteers
- Assist in The Woodland Bistro to meet and greet visitors, serve drinks and assist in the kitchen when necessary.
- Assist at weekend events such as music and storytelling evenings to ensure quality visitor experience.
- Assist in prepping and tidying/cleaning the dormitory roundhouses as per residential operations procedure.
- Assist with maintenance of 13 acre woodland site
- Assist with maintaining facilities tidy and clean and ‘fit for purpose’ for visiting school children.
- Work with volunteer team to develop visual impact and manage site conservation and accessibility
- Making repairs and maintenance such as moving the grass to ensure Health and Safety for visiting children.
- Maintaining tools and site supplies for maintenance of site and facilities.
Leadership
- Take part in team daily team debrief and staff meetings
- Complete in-house induction training
Communications and admin
- Assist in communication to schools and other stakeholders to promote benefits of programme.
Relationships
- The Graduate Trainee is accountable to the Managing Director for the high standard delivery of the education programme.
- Graduate Trainee takes an active part in daily team debrief and weekly staff meetings and other communication as per internal communication strategy.
- Graduate Trainee is responsible for assisting in developing relationships with teachers/visitors, gathering feedback and promoting education days/events.
- Assist in communicating with teachers and using the database to record customer history, as per school operations standard.
