COUNTER SALES/YARD WORKER & FORKLIFT DRIVER

Robert Price (Builders’ Merchants) Ltd. – Rassau (Philip Jones Timber)

We are looking for a Counter Sales/Yard Worker & Forklift Driver to join our branch in Rassau (Philip Jones Timber, part of the Robert Price Group).

This hybrid role allows the candidate to become multiskilled, in a small fast paced branch.

Robert Price Builders’ Merchants Ltd is a family run independent business, with head office in Abergavenny. Founded in 1847, we are a substantial local employer, with the developments and progressions of a modern large enterprise and the grounding and values of a traditional family run business. We are the largest independent builders’ merchant in South East Wales.

What is a builders’ merchant?

A builders’ merchant is a company which supplies materials to the construction sector.

Up to 85% of the built environment you see around you is supplied by Britain’s builders’ merchants. Merchants and the supply chain are crucial to the construction industry which contributes over £40 billion to the UK economy each year. A career in this essential commercial sector can be challenging, varied and rewarding.

Hours:

44.5 hours per week average to be worked from Monday to Friday during our daytime opening hours of 8.00am to 17.00pm, plus alternative Saturday mornings 8:00am – 12:00pm.

Pay:

Negotiable according to experience.

Benefits:

Include 30 days holidays including bank holidays, NEST pension scheme membership, uniform and boot money allowance, life assurance cover, discretionary bonuses.

Duties:

· Counter sales and related administration

· Use of point-of-sale terminal – training will be given

· Customer service, dealing with customers in person and on the phone

· Merchandising, price labelling and stock management

· Picking orders, loading and unloading

· Forklift driving and general warehouse duties

Essential Skills:

· A confident communicator with a willingness to engage with customers and provide good service

· Manual handling up to 25kg

· GCSE Maths (minimum grade C) and English Language with good keyboard skills

· Reliable, industrious, adaptable and quick to grasp new concepts

· A proven team player

· Naturally tidy and organised

· Able to follow instructions and work unsupervised and with initiative

Desirable:

· Practical experience with building materials and their application

· Forklift licence – desirable but not essential, training can be given
