Role – HGV Fitter
Salary – £40405 p.a. plus 30% shift allowance
Location - Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, DN16 1XA
What you need to know about the role
We’re looking for experienced, reliable, practical and safety-minded HGV fitter To carry out inspection, servicing, diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs), trailers, and specialist support vehicles, including vacuum jetting tankers, to ensure they remain safe, roadworthy, and fully compliant with all relevant legislation and company standards.
The role involves working on a mixed fleet of vehicles operating in a demanding industrial environment, ensuring high standards of workmanship, safety, and efficiency at all times.
What you’ll be doing
Carry out routine servicing, inspections, and preventative maintenance on HGVs, trailers, and specialist vehicles.
Diagnose and repair faults involving engines, gearboxes, clutches, braking systems, suspension, steering, and electrical systems.
Inspect, maintain, and repair vacuum jetting tankers, including vacuum pumps, water pumps, pipework, hoses, valves, tanks, and associated hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
Conduct breakdown repairs both in the workshop and on-site as required.
Replace components including axles, wheel bearings, air systems, hydraulic equipment, and PTO-driven ancillary systems.
Diagnostics and Inspection
Use diagnostic equipment to identify mechanical and electronic faults.
Interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and service bulletins.
Carry out detailed safety inspections and identify defects.
Recommend further work where necessary.
Compliance and Roadworthiness
Ensure all vehicles and specialist equipment meet DVSA roadworthiness standards.
What we need to know about you
NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
Proven experience working on HGVs and trailers.
Strong knowledge of diesel engines, braking systems, suspension, and vehicle electrics.
Experience using diagnostic software and tools.
Full UK driving licence.
Good communication skills.
Ability to work independently and under pressure.
Computer literacy for job recording systems.
High attention to detail.
Practical, hands on approach.
Desirable
Experience working on vacuum jetting tankers or similar specialist equipment.
Knowledge of PTO systems, pumps, hydraulics, and vacuum systems.
HGV Class 1 or Class 2 licence.
IRTEC accreditation.
OEM training from manufacturers such as MAN, DAF, Scania or Volvo Trucks.
