We own and operate a group of anaerobic digestion facilities across the UK. We also provide biological support, emergency response and feedstock supply to other operators within the industry. Our industry expertise means we not only have the knowledge and experience to deal with all the food waste the UK produces.
Our Changing Waste site is an industrial processor of waste located in the East Riding of Yorkshire. It is designed to handle a wide range of waste feedstocks. Through a variety of different processes that utilise the waste as a raw material to create a blend for anaerobic digestion, which in turn is used to generate electricity and gas that is 100% renewable and exported to the national grid.
Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Commercial Manager specializing in Feedstocks and Oil to join our team in Spaldington, East Yorkshire.
Purpose of the role
The Commercial Manager – Feedstocks & Oil will hold full commercial responsibility for the sourcing, procurement, management and performance of feedstocks and oils into and out of the AD plant operation. The role is responsible for the end-to-end ownership of the oil function, including supplier acquisition, commercial negotiations, logistics coordination, quality management, compliance oversight, operational alignment, margin performance and customer relationship management.
Working closely with operations, bookings, transport and compliance teams, the role acts as the key link between commercial activity and plant performance, ensuring feedstocks are both biologically suitable and commercially optimised for the business. The position will lead the development of profitable supply streams, maintain strong stakeholder relationships and ensure the business remains competitive, compliant and operationally efficient.
Key areas of responsibility:
Commercial & Strategic Management
- Develop and execute the commercial strategy for feedstock and oil sourcing across the business.
- Take full ownership of the oil function from initial sourcing through to delivery, processing, reporting and commercial performance.
- Identify, target and secure new feedstock and oil suppliers whilst retaining and developing existing accounts.
- Build, manage and maintain a robust pipeline of commercial opportunities through CRM and structured sales processes.
- Negotiate, draft and manage commercial supply agreements ensuring terms are commercially viable, compliant and risk mitigated.
- Monitor market conditions, pricing movements and competitor activity to maintain commercial competitiveness.
- Support wider company growth plans through proactive business development and relationship management.
Operational & Plant Integration
- Take responsibility for incoming feedstocks and oils working closely with operations, bookings and transport teams to manage plant requirements and operational challenges.
- Ensure feedstocks meet biological, operational, ABP and environmental requirements prior to acceptance.
- Manage oil quality, sampling, testing and acceptance criteria in collaboration with operational teams.
- Work alongside site teams to balance plant throughput, operational efficiency and commercial returns.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure smooth delivery, intake and processing of materials.
Financial & Commercial Performance
- Manage margins, pricing structures, procurement costs and P&L performance for the feedstock and oil business streams.
- Provide regular reporting on volumes, profitability, contracts, supplier performance, pipeline status and forecasts.
- Identify opportunities to improve profitability, reduce costs and optimise procurement mix.
- Assist in achieving site operational and commercial KPI’s.
Compliance & Sustainability
- Ensure all feedstocks and oils comply with relevant Environmental Permits, Animal By-Products regulations, Duty of Care requirements and company procedures.
- Support compliance with ISCC, RED II and wider sustainability schemes where applicable.
- Work with compliance and operational teams to maintain legal and regulatory adherence across all incoming waste streams.
- Ensure supplier documentation, declarations and compliance records remain current and accurate.
Stakeholder & Relationship Management
- Build strong working relationships with suppliers, customers, site operations, transport, compliance teams and senior management.
- Act as a key commercial contact for feedstock and oil related matters across the business.
- Support customers and suppliers with issue resolution in a professional and commercially balanced manner.
- Represent the business professionally within the waste, AD and renewable energy sectors.
Individual competency & role requirements
Technical Expertise
- Experience in a commercial role within feedstock supply, waste oils, biogas/AD, waste or renewable energy sectors preferred
- Strong commercial acumen: track record in contracting, negotiation, margin management, P&L responsibility preferred
- Knowledge of the UK AD industry (feedstocks, logistics, regulations), or adjacent sectors (waste oils, feedstock supply, residual waste).
- Ability to build and manage a pipeline of opportunities, and convert leads into contracts.
- Knowledge of UK Environmental Permitting, Waste Framework Directive, and Bioenergy regulations advantageous.
- Proven experience in a sustainability, compliance, or certification role within the anaerobic digestion, biogas, renewable energy, or waste management sectors advantageous
- Strong understanding of ISCC certification, RED II sustainability criteria, and RHI (or post-RHI schemes)
- Experience with contract tendering, waste feedstock logistics, or oil sourcing.
- High level of computer literacy – proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook, Sharepoint)
