Job Title: Pool Safety & Support Assistant

Grade: 3

Service Area: Community Based and Carer Support Services

Reports to: Service Manager

Purpose:

To ensure the safe, inclusive, and person-centred operation of the hydrotherapy or swimming pool facility, supporting individuals with a range of physical, sensory, and learning needs. This role reflects the Making it Real ethos by promoting wellbeing, independence, and dignity through safe and meaningful access to aquatic activities.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Supervision & Safety

· Maintain constant vigilance over pool users to prevent accidents and respond swiftly to emergencies, ensuring everyone feels safe and supported.

· Carry out rescues, administer first aid, and follow emergency action plans in line with training and procedures.

· Promote a respectful and inclusive environment where people are treated as individuals and feel in control of their experience.

Health & Safety Compliance

· Conduct and record daily safety checks, including emergency equipment, signage, and access routes, ensuring the environment is safe and welcoming.

· Monitor and maintain water quality (temperature, chlorine, pH, alkalinity) in line with approved codes of practice, ensuring a safe and therapeutic experience for all.

· Record and report test results and make necessary adjustments to maintain balanced water chemistry.

· Escalate any health and safety concerns or incidents, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.

Operational Support

· Set up and dismantle equipment for therapy sessions, group activities, and individual use, ensuring flexibility and responsiveness to people’s needs.

· Operate and maintain poolside equipment, including hoists and mobility aids, enabling people to participate with dignity and independence.

· Support the Service Manager in maintaining records of water testing, cleaning schedules, and incident logs, ensuring transparency and quality assurance.

Customer Service & Inclusion

· Provide a warm, person-centred welcome to customers, family members, carers, professionals and visitors, ensuring everyone feels valued and respected.

· Respond to and screen telephone calls, emails, and general enquiries, delivering a high standard of customer service and ensuring all communications are handled efficiently and courteously.

· Manage the pool booking system by monitoring availability, processing payments, and uphold SCAS financial protocols.

· Assist individuals with additional needs in accessing the pool safely, working with family members, carers and therapists to deliver personalised support.

· Encourage feedback and involvement from customers to help shape and improve the service, in line with co-production principles.

Pool Maintenance

· Maintain high standards of cleanliness in and around the pool area, including changing rooms and equipment stores, supporting health, dignity, and comfort.

· Ensure all equipment is stored safely and securely, promoting independence and ease of access.

· Participate in routine deep cleaning and maintenance tasks, including ordering and safe storage of pool chemicals, ensuring full compliance with COSHH regulations and contributing to a high-quality, well-managed environment.

Other Duties

· Carry out duties with full regard to the Company’s Equal Opportunities Policy, and all other Company Policies.

· Comply with the Company’s Health and Safety policy, rules and regulations and with Health and Safety legislation.

· The post holder must act in compliance with data protection principles in respecting the privacy of personal information held by the Company.

· Comply with the principles of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 in relation to the management of Company records and information.

· Comply with the principles and requirements of the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR in relation to the management of Company records and information and respect the privacy of personal information held by the Company.

· Cover all hours as services develop including weekends and evenings.

· Co-operate with the rota schedule to ensure adequate staffing levels and be flexible at times due to the changing needs of the service and customers.

Pay: £13.69-£14.59 per hour
