Full job description

Job Title - Operational Policy Coordinator.

Job Base Location - Service Headquarters, Birkenshaw (Hybrid Working).

Grade 4 - £30,518 to £31,537 per annum (National Pay Award Pending).

You can help West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service by supporting the development and maintenance of operational policies, procedures and guidance that help our firefighters and operational teams deliver services safely, consistently and effectively.

Job Purpose: To support the development, review, maintenance and communication of WYFRS operational policy and guidance, ensuring documents are accurate, accessible, current and aligned to legislation, National Operational Guidance, Fire Standards and internal governance requirements. The postholder will support research, consultation, document control, InfoHub and operational platform updates, stakeholder co-ordination, and the administration of review and assurance processes across the operational policy function. In addition, the post holder will provide professional executive governance and business support to the function, ensuring effective co-ordination of operational and strategic activities, maintenance of governance arrangements, and delivery of administrative support that enables the efficient functioning of Service Support and achievement of organisational priorities.

Key Responsibilities: You will co-ordinate the review and maintenance of operational policies, procedures and tactical risk assessments; support consultation and assurance processes; manage policy-related information and records; update digital information platforms; provide project and governance support; and work collaboratively with subject matter experts to ensure operational guidance remains current and effective.

Essential requirements - You will be able to demonstrate:

· organisational awareness and the ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information.

· experience in production, analysis and management of accurate data and information.

· experience in developing and delivering policy or procedural information used within a work environment.

· experienced in the delivery of information to mixed audiences using varied communication techniques.

· GCSE Maths and English Grade C or above, or equivalent level literacy and numeracy gained through work experience.

· planning, analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to organise work and meet deadlines in a busy environment.

· a high standard of written and verbal communication, with the ability to produce clear, accurate and accessible information.

· good organisational skills, including the ability to manage competing demands, maintain records and support structured review processes.

· a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and confidence using digital systems to manage information.

· commitment to good data quality, document control and accurate record keeping within all areas of work.

· strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to demonstrate a proactive, confident and resilient approach, with the ability to work collaboratively with subject matter experts and stakeholders.

· an understanding of and commitment to providing a high-quality standard of service to internal and external customers.

· able to attend meetings across the Service; hold and maintain a current full UK valid car driving license.
