Our rents team play a vital role in ensuring the council collect the money from the properties we rent out. This function is vital for us to sustain the services we offer and supports our aim in providing safe quality homes to Swindon Borough residents. As a Rents Housing Officer, you’ll be at the heart of that mission.

What You'll Do

You will be responsible for rent collection and reducing any money owed to the Council. Using your skills and knowledge to engage with current, prospective, and former tenants, their representatives, and officers, through multiple communication channels. Be a major contributor in respect of improving Housing’s income collection performance, by sharing your knowledge and experience to ensure effective income collection. You will:

Effectively manage a caseload to meet performance targets and maximise income, giving priority to cases where tenants are at risk of possession action and eviction. When identified, provide feedback to officers and managers, including appropriate action and recommendations to support sustainable tenancies.
Manage all arrears collection including direct debits, assisting on other patches where required.

What You'll Bring

Proven experience of working with customers using a range of communication methods; being able to demonstrate excellent customer handling skills and dealing courteously and in a professional manner. Able to gather information to provide support and assistance.

Appreciation and understanding of Housing legislation including the Social Housing Regulation Act and the consumer standards.

You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act “for the effective performance of a customer-facing role”).

The ability to travel throughout the Borough will be required and access to a vehicle to be able to support sessions and events around the town and carry out inspections.

The team operates a hybrid working model with all practitioners expected to be in the office for a minimum of two days per week.
