About Computers Rebooted
Computers Rebooted Limited is a growing computer refurbishment business based in Leeds. We specialise in preparing good-quality, affordable laptops and computers for resale to consumers and business customers.
We process a substantial and growing volume of used business-grade laptops, primarily from manufacturers such as Dell, HP and Lenovo.
We are looking for a reliable, technically capable and hardworking Laptop Refurbishment Technician to join our team. This is a practical, hands-on role focused on repairing, upgrading, testing and preparing laptops for sale.
This is a permanent, long-term position rather than a temporary or seasonal role. We are looking for someone who wants to develop within the business and ideally remain with us for several years.
The Role
You will be responsible for taking used laptops through the refurbishment process and producing clean, fully tested and sale-ready devices.
The role requires a balance of technical ability, attention to detail and productivity. You will be working in a busy, fast-paced environment where priorities and workloads can change quickly.
You must be able to remain calm, organised and productive under pressure while continuing to follow the correct processes and maintain our quality standards.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Inspecting laptops and identifying cosmetic and technical faults.
- Diagnosing common hardware and software problems.
- Replacing and upgrading components such as RAM, SSDs, batteries, keyboards, screens and other laptop parts.
- Installing and configuring Windows 11, drivers, updates and relevant software.
- Checking BIOS settings, firmware and hardware specifications.
- Testing keyboards, trackpads, screens, batteries, webcams, speakers, Wi-Fi, USB ports and other functions.
- Cleaning laptops to a suitable retail standard.
- Accurately grading devices based on their cosmetic condition.
- Recording serial numbers, specifications, faults, repairs and testing results in our internal systems.
- Ensuring laptops meet our quality standards before being approved for sale.
- Working towards reasonable daily and weekly production targets without compromising quality.
- Preparing completed devices for stock or customer orders.
- Organising parts, stock and work in progress.
- Supporting with packaging and general workshop duties when required.
- Responding positively when workloads, priorities or order requirements change.
- Keeping your workbench and the wider working area clean, organised and safe.
- Following company procedures relating to quality control, data security and health and safety.
Pay and Performance Bonus
The starting rate for this position is £12.71 per hour, plus the opportunity to earn a performance-related bonus.
The bonus is linked to productivity, quality, reliability and the consistent completion of work to the required standard. Speed is important, but devices must also be correctly tested, repaired, recorded and prepared for sale.
The advertised rate is a starting rate. Depending on sustained performance, technical development, reliability and the level of responsibility taken on, there may be room for future pay progression.
Any pay review or increase will be based on individual performance and business requirements and is not automatic or guaranteed.
Full details of the performance bonus will be discussed during the interview process.
What We Are Looking For
Previous experience repairing, upgrading or refurbishing laptops would be beneficial. This experience could have been gained in a commercial refurbishment business, computer repair shop, IT department or through substantial personal experience.
Formal IT qualifications are helpful but are not essential. Practical ability, attention to detail, reliability and a willingness to learn are more important to us.
You should have:
- Experience opening, repairing and reassembling laptops and computers.
- A good understanding of laptop hardware, including RAM, SSDs, batteries, screens and keyboards.
- Confidence using Windows, BIOS menus and hardware diagnostic tools.
- The ability to diagnose common laptop faults logically.
- Good attention to detail when identifying faults and recording device information.
- The ability to work efficiently and consistently.
- The ability to remain calm and productive under pressure.
- A reliable and punctual approach to work.
- The ability to follow established processes and quality standards.
- Good organisation and housekeeping standards.
- The ability to manage changing priorities without losing focus or accuracy.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a small team.

Desirable Experience
Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:
- Commercial laptop or computer refurbishment.
- Preparing used laptops for resale.
- Repairing Dell Latitude, HP EliteBook or Lenovo ThinkPad laptops.
- Installing Windows across multiple devices.
- Computer hardware testing and diagnostics.
- Grading used electronic equipment.
- Using asset-management or stock-control systems.
- Working in a production, workshop or warehouse environment.
- Working in a fast-paced or target-driven role.
- Managing changing workloads or deadlines.
- Identifying and managing reusable laptop components and spare parts.
Experience in a fast-paced environment does not necessarily need to have been gained within the IT industry. Experience in production, warehousing, manufacturing, fulfilment, hospitality, retail or another busy operational environment may also be relevant.
Component-level or board-level repair experience is not required, although it would be useful.

Probationary Period
The position is subject to a 12-week probationary period.
During this period, we will assess:

Important Information
This is a fully on-site position and cannot be performed remotely.
The role involves regular handling of laptops, computer equipment, spare parts and boxes of stock. Applicants must be comfortable working in a practical workshop environment and spending much of the working day carrying out hands-on refurbishment tasks.
The working environment can become busy, particularly when there are large orders, changing priorities or tight dispatch deadlines. Applicants must be comfortable working at pace while continuing to complete work accurately and safely.
