Full job description

HYPE are looking for confident, enthusiastic, and passionate individuals to work as youth workers and mentors within a youth club setting. It is important that you bring energy and passion to the job, as you will be acting as a role model to various groups of young people. Prior experience working with young people is essential.

The right candidate will be creative with session plans, and happy to take the initiative and lead youth groups if necessary. They will have the ability to critically evaluate their past sessions, with the aim of continually improving their performance as a youth worker. They will have a solid understanding of Health & Safety and Safeguarding Policies within a youth work setting.

Responsibilities and Duties

Initiate, develop and maintain positive relationships with young people in order to identify key issues relevant to them
To be involved in planning and facilitating project activities for young people
To direct youth work in a way that encourages young people to develop their self – awareness, individuality and political growth
To work in ways which promote equality of opportunity, participation and responsibility
To work with young people to safeguard their welfare
To promote a culture of health and safety during project sessions
To be responsible for the security of buildings, equipment and any finances collected in project sessions
To manage work in line with the HYPE policies and legal requirements including health and safety, child protection, equal opportunities, and financial regulations.

Qualifications and Skills

Experience

Demonstrable experience of using own initiative
Experience of working with challenging and disengaged young people
Experience of forming non-judgmental and constructive relationships with young people
Good active listening skills

Skills and Abilities

Able to communicate effectively with young people and those who influence them (parents, teachers etc)
Passionate, enthusiastic and believe in making a difference in young peoples lives.
Ability to reflect on their work, critically evaluate performance and strive to continually improve sessions
Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners
Ability to work towards and hit targets
Excellent time management and organisational skills
