Full job description

We are seeking a motivated professional to provide 12‑month maternity leave cover from September

Please note : if appointed induction will go ahead the last week in August in preparation for a September Start.

Job Summary
To provide high-quality teaching, learning and pastoral support for students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, ensuring they can access an ambitious curriculum, develop emotional regulation and make strong academic, social and personal progress.

The postholder will create safe, predictable and relational learning environments, adapting teaching and behaviour support to meet complex needs including trauma, attachment difficulties, neurodiversity and associated barriers to learning.

Duties

Teaching & Learning
Deliver engaging, sequenced and differentiated lessons; use assessment to adapt teaching for SEMH, SEND and neurodiverse learners; track progress; give meaningful feedback; maintain high expectations; provide targeted intervention; support resilience and independence; contribute to curriculum development and formal reviews.
Teaching expectations

SEMH & Therapeutic Practice
Build trusting relationships; use trauma‑informed, relational approaches; implement behaviour and therapeutic plans; respond to dysregulation and crisis; promote emotional literacy; work closely with therapy teams and external professionals; contribute to individual support planning.
SEMH practice

Safeguarding & Wellbeing
Maintain vigilant safeguarding; report concerns promptly; support attendance and reintegration; ensure physical and emotional safety; contribute to risk management across all learning environments.
Safeguarding duties

Classroom & Behaviour Management
Create calm, structured routines; nurture psychologically safe classrooms; use de‑escalation and restorative approaches; support relationship repair; collaborate effectively with support staff; maintain clear behaviour records.
Behaviour management

Professional Collaboration
Work collaboratively across education, therapy and pastoral teams; engage in meetings and multi‑agency planning; communicate with families; contribute to EHCP reviews; participate in professional development and school improvement.
Professional collaboration

Parents & Carers
Build positive relationships; provide regular updates on progress and wellbeing; participate in reviews; strengthen home–school partnerships.
Parent communication

Multi‑Agency Working
Collaborate with SENCo, pastoral teams and external agencies; work with therapists and specialists; contribute to EHCP processes; implement agreed strategies consistently.
Multi‑agency working

Working With Support Staff
Use teaching assistants effectively; follow specialist guidance; ensure consistent support and strong student engagement.
