Full job description

We're looking for an experienced and ambitious Assistant Financial Controller to join our Finance team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified or part-qualified finance professional who enjoys combining technical excellence with practical problem-solving. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you'll play a key role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity and compliance of the Group's financial reporting, while supporting the wider Finance function and helping drive continuous improvement.

You'll act as a trusted deputy to the Financial Controller, getting involved in everything from statutory reporting and audit management to financial controls, payroll oversight and regulatory compliance.

The role

What you'll be doing:

Support the delivery of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end financial reporting.
Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations and investigate any variances or discrepancies.
Assist with statutory accounts preparation and manage relationships with external auditors.
Support tax and regulatory reporting, including VAT and other statutory submissions.
Help maintain strong financial controls and identify opportunities to improve processes and efficiency.
Oversee key financial accounting activities including journals, accruals and month-end reporting.
Partner with People & Culture and our payroll provider to ensure payroll is accurate, compliant and appropriately controlled.
Support treasury activities, cash management and banking processes.
Assist with FCA compliance, risk management and governance requirements.
Contribute to Board and Audit & Risk Committee reporting.
Deputise for the Financial Controller when required and provide guidance to colleagues across the Finance team.

What We're Looking For

We're interested in people who can demonstrate:

Previous experience within a Financial Accounting, Financial Control or Assistant Financial Controller role.
Strong technical accounting knowledge and understanding of financial controls.
Experience supporting audits and statutory reporting.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Confidence working with colleagues across different teams and levels of the organisation.
A proactive approach, with the ability to identify issues and drive solutions.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

Qualifications

We're open to applications from:

Qualified accountants (ACA, ACCA or CIMA), or
Individuals working towards a professional accounting qualification who can demonstrate relevant experience.

Pay: £40,000.00-£50,000.00 per year

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Brighton BN1 4DE
