Overview

A specialist SEND provision in Colne is recruiting an Autism Support Practitioner to join their team from September. The school supports pupils with high levels of autism and complex needs, following a personalised Early Years and Primary curriculum focused on communication, interaction, emotional development, sensory regulation and independence skills.

Working closely with teachers, therapists and families, the successful candidate will play a key role in helping pupils access learning and reach their individual potential within a highly supportive environment.

This is a full-time opportunity that has the potential to become a permanent role following a successful temporary period.

Key Responsibilities:

Support pupils with autism and complex needs to access learning throughout the school day.
Deliver structured interventions and learning activities linked to individual targets and EHCP outcomes.
Support communication development using visual supports, PECS, symbols and communication aids.
Assist with sensory regulation strategies and personalised support plans.
Adapt learning activities to meet individual developmental and learning needs.
Facilitate opportunities for communication, engagement and social interaction.
Support pupils to develop independence, self-help and life skills.
Monitor, record and evaluate progress against individual targets.
Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, parents and carers to ensure consistency across settings.
Promote pupil wellbeing, confidence and active participation in all aspects of school life.

Pre-requisites:

Experience supporting children or young people with autism and additional needs.
Understanding of autism spectrum condition, sensory processing and communication differences.
Knowledge of PECS, visual supports and alternative communication methods desirable.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Patient, nurturing and highly organised approach.
Experience within SEND, education, childcare or care settings beneficial.
Relevant qualifications in Education, SEND, Child Development or equivalent experience desirable.

Pay: £95.00-£110.00 per day
