Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join our Anaerobic Digestion (AD) facility team. This is a hands-on role responsible for maintaining, repairing, overhauling, and improving a wide range of mechanical plant and process equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient facility operation.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering planned preventative maintenance, responding to equipment breakdowns, diagnosing faults, and implementing effective repairs to maximise plant availability and performance.

Responsibilities

Plant Maintenance

Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities on mechanical plant and equipment.
Inspect, service, repair, and overhaul pumps, motors, gearboxes, agitators, conveyors, and associated process equipment.
Undertake equipment rebuilds and component replacements to maintain asset integrity and operational performance.
Accurately complete maintenance records and documentation in line with company procedures.

Fault Diagnosis & Repair

Diagnose and rectify mechanical, hydraulic, and operational equipment faults.
Investigate equipment failures, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
Respond promptly to plant breakdowns and emergency situations to restore operational capability.
Escalate significant operational, reliability, or safety concerns when required.

Feedstock & Process Equipment

Maintain and repair feedstock handling systems, including hydraulic walking floors, screw feeders, and associated hydraulic equipment.
Support operational continuity by ensuring critical process systems remain reliable and available.
Assist with plant modifications, equipment installation, commissioning, and improvement projects.

Health, Safety & Compliance

Work safely at all times in accordance with company health, safety, environmental, and site procedures.
Conduct dynamic risk assessments and ensure appropriate control measures are in place before and during maintenance activities.
Operate within permit-to-work systems, risk assessments, and method statements.
Stop work and report concerns where unsafe conditions are identified.
Identify and report hazards, near misses, and unsafe practices.
Contribute to maintaining compliance with statutory regulations and site safety standards.

Continuous Improvement

Support maintenance and reliability improvement initiatives.
Identify opportunities to reduce maintenance costs, improve equipment performance, and extend asset life.
Assist with shutdown planning and execution activities.

Experience

You will be a proactive maintenance professional with strong mechanical fault-finding skills and experience working within an industrial or process plant environment.

Essential Skills & Experience

Mechanical maintenance experience within an industrial, manufacturing, process, energy, waste, recycling, or similar environment.
Strong knowledge of pumps, motors, gearboxes, conveyors, rotating equipment, and hydraulic systems.
Proven fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
Experience carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance activities.
Understanding of health and safety requirements, permit-to-work systems, and risk assessments.
Ability to work independently and prioritise workload effectively.
Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Desirable

Experience within an Anaerobic Digestion, biogas, waste processing, wastewater, energy-from-waste, or process plant environment.
Mechanical apprenticeship, NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent engineering qualification.
Experience with CMMS or maintenance management systems.
Welding, fabrication, or hydraulic maintenance experience.

Pay: From £30,000.00 per year
