Full job description

Overview

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Tool Hire Shop Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our busy tool hire branch. This is a hands-on management role where you'll be responsible for delivering excellent customer service, driving sales, managing stock and equipment, and leading a small team to achieve high standards of performance.

The successful candidate will have strong leadership skills, commercial awareness, and a passion for providing outstanding service while ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the hire business.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the daily operations of the tool hire shop.
Lead, motivate, and develop the branch team.
Deliver exceptional customer service to trade and retail customers.
Drive sales and maximise hire opportunities.
Ensure all hire equipment is maintained, inspected, and available for hire.
Manage stock levels and coordinate deliveries and collections.
Oversee health and safety compliance across the branch.
Handle customer enquiries, quotations, and account management.
Monitor branch performance against sales and profitability targets.
Maintain accurate hire documentation and reporting.
Build and maintain strong relationships with local businesses and contractors.

About You

We're looking for someone who has:

Previous experience managing a tool hire, plant hire, builders' merchant, or similar business.
Strong leadership and people management skills.
Excellent customer service and communication abilities.
Good commercial awareness and a proactive approach to sales.
Experience managing stock, equipment, and operational processes.
Knowledge of health and safety requirements within the hire industry.
Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
Confidence using computer systems and hire management software.
A full UK driving licence is desirable.
