Full job description

We are looking for a reliable and practical Maintenance Operative/Handyman to join our friendly team at our care home. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the home is safe, well-maintained, and comfortable for our residents, visitors, and staff.

This is a varied role that requires someone who is proactive, organised, and able to carry out general maintenance and repair tasks to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out day-to-day maintenance and repair work throughout the care home.
Undertake basic plumbing, painting, decorating, carpentry, and minor electrical tasks within your level of competence.
Complete regular health and safety checks, including fire safety and water temperature monitoring.
Ensure the building, equipment, fixtures, and fittings are maintained in good working order.
Liaise with external contractors and supervise their work when required.
Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff and management.
Maintain the grounds and outdoor areas to a safe and tidy standard.
Keep accurate records of maintenance work completed and report any major repairs required.
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and care home policies.

What We're Looking For

Previous experience in a maintenance, handyman, or facilities role.
Good practical skills across a range of general maintenance tasks.
Basic knowledge of health and safety requirements.
Ability to work independently and manage your workload effectively.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
A positive and flexible approach to work.
Understanding of the importance of maintaining a safe environment for vulnerable adults.

Desirable

Experience working within a care home, healthcare, hospitality, or similar environment.
Basic knowledge of fire safety procedures.
Relevant maintenance qualifications or trade experience.
Full UK driving licence.
