Full job description

Background to the Role

To assist in, and take responsibility for, organising and controlling the efficient and economic production of quality food within the allowed budget, whilst maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in line with EHO regulations.

Purpose of the Role

To prepare and provide residents with nutritious meals throughout the day. To attend to specific dietary requirements and create an attractive menu. To work in line with hygiene regulations and manage kitchen assistants. To act in accordance with the policies and procedures of the home. To act as a role model for other kitchen staff.

Key Accountabilities

Main Responsibilities

Prepare, cook and serve hot and cold meals.
Provide for special dietary requirements where necessary
Take into account the preferences of individual residents.
Assist in planning / costing menus in order to provide a balanced nutritious diet, making the best use of available fresh foods.
Maintain accurate records of food supplies, and freezer / fridge temperatures
Ensure stock rotation. Assist in the ordering of stocks and checking of deliveries, and check and value stocks as required by the Home Manager
Ensure all crockery and equipment is cleaned and stored appropriately, and that the overall cleaning of the kitchen area (and, where appropriate, the dining areas) is carried out effectively
Ensure statutory Health and Safety standards in the kitchen and dining areas.
Report to the Home Manager, or the Handyperson, any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or any potential hazard.
Promote safe working practice in the Home/Care Centre.
Ensure all equipment is clean and well maintained.

Line Management

Supervise and instruct Kitchen Staff Members in the use of all equipment and hygiene procedures, giving help and guidance where appropriate

Professional Development and Training

Participate in Staff and resident meetings.
Maintain and improve professional knowledge and competence.
Attend all mandatory training days/courses, on or off site, as and when required.

Other responsibilities

· Report immediately to the Home Manager, or Person in Charge, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a resident, colleague, self or another.

Understand, and ensure the implementation of, the Home/Care Centre’s Health and Safety policy, and Emergency and Fire procedures.
Promote and ensure the good reputation of the Home/Care Centre.
Ensure that all information of confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third parties.
Notify the Home Manager, or the Person in Charge, as soon as possible of your inability to report for duty, and also on your return to work from all periods of absence.
Ensure the security of the Home/Care Centre is maintained at all times.
Adhere to all Company policies and procedures within the defined timescales.
Carry out any other tasks that may be reasonably assigned to you.

The above list of duties is not exhaustive and is subject to change. The post holder may be required to undertake others duties within the scope and grading of the post.
